I'm seeing a lot of Passat, Jetta and Golf TDI's.

Then again, I filled up at $3.11 a gallon for (not very) super unleaded yesterday, you really have to be doing the miles for it to make sense here.

Duty is 59%(?) on diesel. So on your first 2500litres, that saves you about £1900, assuming you could produce diesel for 53p per litre?
I can buy new veg oil for 62p per litre, 75% VO to 25% diesel = cheap to run mobile chip shop.

thumbup
Where do you get it for 62p? I've just bought 200l or so , paid 80p. So be handy to know for when I run out!

I cannot find a station near me that does not sell diesel; however, it may well be a regional thing as you point out. UR is correct that the SUVs and trucks are by far the main user of diesel. That is changing (a little) as more cars are offering diesel without compromised performance.
I passed through Baton Rouge last week and can assure you there are plenty of stinking diesels on the road.

By the way - don't be suckered in by that "without compromised performance" hype. A petrol car will still blow the comparable diesel into the weeds.

Just paid $2.86 for 18 gallons of premium at my local Kroger using 10c off points. Interestingly, we have 2 branches of Kroger with gas stations within 3 miles. One charges a 30c premium for premium (as is the norm round our way now), the other only 20c.

Drove past the local Esso this morning and this evening. Diesel was the same price as petrol £1:19.9. The queue this evening was huge.

Diesel is a rip off should be cheaper.Unless outprice the stuff altogether and only tractors on the field use it.

L.P.G worth it only the hassle fitting a spare tank and some engines don't like it.

The cheapest place for petrol in Reading in my experience is the Shell garage on Shinfield Road, might be the case for diesel too? I'll try and remember to look when I fill up tomorrow.

How many shop around for oil I wonder. A litre of Castrol in ASDA £7.50. In Sainsbury's £14.99

Big difference. Exactly same product.

Don't bother with shops as they don't really do fully synthetic.

I do on ebay, bought £120's worth of oil to service various bikes and keep the car topped up.

if I'd went to halfrauds would have been £200 EASY.

Diesel is £1.249 at the one I mentioned so not that much difference.

Currently paying £1.99 a litre for 100LL at my local establishment, burning anywhere between 1 and 3 litres a minute, depending on hooligan setting.

Price has been that way for at least three years though.

Just saw $2.35 / Gallon at two places on the way to the office. Costco and an independent. Double edged sword for Louisiana as our state's budget is largly funded by petroleum.

Does it seem like the roads get any busier as the price drops?

In the city where I am, the traffic is always tough, so no difference to be noticed. Out on the Interstates perhaps. I notice no more actually, but I do notice less when it gets above $4.00.

Hate to rub it in but we're down to $2 a gallon, 33p per litre, local supermarkets are at $1.97. A colleague of mine who lived 40 miles south saw $1.80 yesterday. Just topped up the F Type with 10 gallons of V-Power for $23.00. biggrin
