Very average performance. Sure it was all easy on the eye and stuff but we should be creating genuine chance after chance against a team like Bolton at home.

Sterling isn't a striker and I think it's madness holding out on Sturridge as our only genuine striker option the way we prefer to play.
But Sturridge is the only "main striker" we have (Balo is a joke I prefer to pretend never happened).

Had DS been on the pitch there is a good chance we would have won tonight.
We would all love to have a choice of top class strikers to bring on, but we don't so we have made the most of what we have available.

After today's results I can take a small amount of satisfaction from today. ( We didn't lose )

We'll best them at their place because they won't park several buses.

We need someone to be able to get past those buses though. (Chelsea last year)

There's a lot of good teams not in the hat for the next round. As others have said, I am confident for the replay.

We do need another top striker due to DS injury worries - but not sure who is available right now. The stories of Benzema for the summer sound incredible and we would definitely need Champions League I would assume to land a player in that bracket.

After Middlesbrough in the League Cup I'll be getting an early night the night before in case this 'besting' involves us going through 48-47 on penalties. hehe

Still have a few days left to get rid of Balotelli...

Brendan said:
"He knows exactly what is required to be in this squad before he can be in the team," Rodgers said of the striker.

"I am judging it every day in training - Mario is exactly the same as every other player, there is no special treatment for anyone," added Rodgers.

"Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert are working tirelessly in training and when they go on they have contributed and young Jordan Rossiter, on the bench today, has been brilliant in training and I have to judge it on that.

"If you want to contribute you have to be at it every single day in training in order to be in the squad on matchday.

"It is difficult for him [Balotelli] but he knows the level of [where] this team is at - you see the aggression in our pressing and if you can't do that you are not going to be a part of what this team is trying to achieve.

I would say it was a pretty ok performance, but you're not really right about having lots of chances. They were very good in defensive, and are a team in form, at least in their league. Although looking at the stats we did create a lot of chances, it's just their defensive did well to keep blocking all the shots. It's the same in the PL, we're often doing better against the better teams, rather than those nearer the bottom who defend the entire game.

I would say all other results considered.. and the 2 Chelsea games within a week, that tonights result wasn't half bad..It's another clean sheet.. something we could not keep to save our lives until recently.. We have finally learned to 'shut up shop' at the back, there is now 2/3 important games coming up and we are growing in confidence throughout the team.. bring on Tuesday.

Oh well. I thought we played perfectly well really but reading a couple of posts on here I must be way off the mark, never mind.
The only real shame was the lack of real goalscorer although I will take nothing away from Bolton who were brilliant I thought and we both deserve that replay.

We miss a goalscorer - although Borini was unlucky not to score. But Bolton defended extremely well in numbers and their goalie pulled off a couple of great stops too. It happens. As HR said - they won't be quite as negative at their ground and we should hopefully have a bit more room to create something. I just hope someone can finish.

anyone know when DS should be fit to be on the bench?

What are the odds? Liverpool make the FA Cup final on Gerrard's birthday. Only to lose it when he slips on the edge of the box, giving the ball away for the winning goal?

That would be a sad way to end and no mistake.

Rodgers would more than likely have him on the bench.

It'd be nice if that happened against Man United as well, bet Captain Zero would love that.

A quote from BR on my "This Is Anfield" phone app had him saying he might be featuring on Tuesday or next weekend. Full training today apparently.

So expect him out for the rest of the season by this evening (hoping not)...

Oh well, I see normal service has been resumed.

Shame, it was nice while it lasted.

Fascinating really regarding our finishing, if anyone watched MotD then they'd have seen two fairly scuffed shots by Anichebe find the back of the net.

Most impressive was the way Bradford one with genuinely quality football!

Fowler for striking coach? If I were BR I'd just make them do extra shooting practice every day, because we certainly lack in quality/guile/finesse when it comes to finishing.

A forum when everyone says the same thing is not going to happen, the best attempt on goal was the Bolton half volley yesterday it was so hard I couldn't believe it and was chuffed it missed. Lucas`s shot in the last few minutes was a real chance sadly shot straight at the keeper so much so the keeper didn't move an inch to catch it. With DS playing yesterday no doubt we would have won.
