I genuinely don't find it even possible to do 20 mph. You feel like a right numpty.
Honestly ? You find it impossible to drive at 20mph ?
Yes, it just seems eerily slow.
Is there anything special about 20s? There are times in 30s, 40s and probably even more in 50s, 60s and 70s where sticking to the limit seems, if not eerily, then painfully slow.
Yes, that speed after travelling 40/30 makes it feel like you can run faster.

Seemed the best place to post this instead of starting a new thread.

Like an idiot i rather vigorously overtook a car that shouldn't have been parked where it was. It was a 30mph zone and I went back to the speed limit pretty much immediately afterwards.

I'm not driving much at the moment, maybe once or twice a month so I recall the occasion well. I ended up getting a letter today showing that I was doing 54mph,the link on the photo is from a car that must have been behind me.

Now clearly I'm going to get in trouble but what I don't understand is if it was a police car behind me why didn't it stop me?

I don't even understand what you mean.

A car was parked on the road on your own side so you sped up to like 60 MPH to overtake it? That doesn't even make sense though, wouldn't you just keep a constant speed as you pull out onto the wrong side of the road?

Car was parked on the left lane. The road has 4 lanes, bit like a dual carriageway, and its marked yellow lines for all of it. I was on the left lane, saw the parked car, looked behind and pulled out into the right lane and yes accelerated else I'd have ended up stuck behind the car that was parked.

Most likely the car behind me when I pulled out and accelerated was the car the speeding photo was taken from.

I'm not really defending the speed I ended up traveling at rather why I wasn't stopped. In isolation it could look like I was speeding down the road for a prolonged period of time.the reality was very different.

Still makes no sense. If you accelerate to 60 every time you pass a parked car in a 30 mph zone then you are living on borrowed time, points wise.

I think what I did makes complete sense, I didn't want to get boxed in.

What obviously doesn't is the speed I ended up doing, even if it was for a brief time.

But that wasn't really my point. If it was a police car behind me, why didn't it stop me?

Nice thread hijack!

Why does it bother you that the Police didn't stop you there and then, because you could have tried to squirm your way out of a ticket?

Police obviously didn't want to stop you, they were possibly expecting you to do something else, but when you didn't they went to pastures new knowing they'd got you anyway!

I assume you have received a Notice of Intended prosecution with a request to name the driver? I haven't heard of the police providing links to photos taken from a patrol car so I wonder if there could have been a camera van further back?

Why would I want to squirm my way out of anything? What a strange thing to say. I've had speeding tickets in the past and no doubt will have them again in the future.

If they might have been expecting me to do something else I'm even more sure they should have stopped me before I might have done it.

That might explain it. I'm sure I'll find out soon enough.
