As iOS 8 has pretty much wrecked by iPad 2 it's time for a new tablet.

The iPad Air 2 is one option but I'm also considering a Nexus 9. I'm an Android man when it comes to phones as I like the customisation options but I'm less bothered about these in a tablet. Money isn't really an issue and I'd simply go for the base model of whichever I choose. I like the residuals of Apple devices and the three year warranty John Lewis are throwing in is also good. I'm just worried though that if I go for Nexus it might feel a little, well, cheap...

Anyone got experience of using the two and thoughts as to which is best (and why)?

Plenty of reviews on the net I know but it's always good to hear 'real' reviews.

I don't have one but I would also be considering one of these due to the bigger and higher resolution screen (better than N9 and Ipads) as well.

The issue with Samsung devices is the time difference they have for new firmware releases..
All nexus devices will be at the top of the list to get the new firmware release first.

Samsung are crap at releasing updated firmware...

Nexus devices all day long, no bloatware and will have Android 5 lollipop quicker than any other manufacturer of android devices

I have a Nexus 7, I like uncluttered Android, but if it's between a N9 & iPad I would also consider the bigger Galaxy Tab 10 )

Hmmm, I hadn't considered a Samsung device. It looks an interesting piece of kit but I want to know that I'll get updates quickly and that it will give me three years of decent use. I think it's therefore still down to my two original options.

Most reviews seem to be saying if you can afford an Air 2 then go for it. Leaning toward a 16GB gold one with the brown smart case.

But I do like the idea of getting my hands on a new lollipop device...

Got my nexus 9 today. I went for the black 32gb version to replace my 32gb iPad 2, which like yours slowed down to a snail pace after the last update.

The nexus 9 is a really nice size and the materials used are top quality. I have a nexus 5 in matt black also so I'm a bit of a nexus fan.

I have a Nexus 7 and a 10. Managed to smash my 10 yesterday, so after a little research, I've ordered a Samsung Tab S 10.5. Reviews of the Nexus 9 suggested it was more about software than cutting-edge hardware, and I thought it might be a bit close to my 7 in size.

I'm now wondering if I should have gone for the Nexus 9 after all.

Well, went for an iPad Air 2 in the end. Overall experience is obviously very similar to my old iPad 2 but man is this thing quick. Touch ID works well and the screen is unbelievable; I keep zooming in on text just to see how smooth it is.

Highly recommended but I'm sure the Nexus 9 is awesome too.

I'm contemplating a new tablet to replace my 3 year old Acer Iconia Tab A500. There isn't really anything wrong with it, its just quite laggy now. Its quite a nice hardware design, being mostly aluminium, but it really gets on my nerves how badly it lags sometimes.

I'm considering either a:

Samsung Tab S
Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet
Google Nexus 10

I've never been a massive Samsung fan, but the specifications of the Tab S look tempting. Also, I know the Nexus 10 is a Samsung device, but at least it wouldn't have the awful Touchwiz bks.
