Hi,

I'm looking at buying a Cooper S 2002 R53.

The one i'm looking at has done 53,000, Chilli pack, and looks in pretty good nick!

Can anyone give me any advice on the Cooper S... Reliability, performance etc.

Much appreciated.

You've probably found it by now but there's a buyers guide article on PH. There's a good site called minitorque, plenty of info there as well.

I've an '03 R53 now done 160,000 miles

Only problem I've had is the power steering motor replacing @ 150,000 miles
This seems to be quite a common fault

We had the power steering pump fail at 30k miles and four years old - and this is not uncommon. I think at higher mileages the supercharger can need replacing.

Check the runflat tyres are good as they can cost a bit - or some people prefer the ride by fitting conventional tyres.

Change the SC oil as you would any oil, should not have a problem

I run on conventional tyres, in fact 225/40 x 18
