Now I am confused as I thought that the timing started when the stage beam remade (as per the TSI Timers website) and yet you are suggesting the timing starts when the guard beam is broken. Can you please clarify?
Edit: I have a copy of the ANDRA rulebook which suggests that the stage beam remarking starts the clocks but if the guard beam is broken before then the clocks start. This would seem to suggest that all vehicles should cheat to gain an advantage...

The timing either starts when the stage beam is remade or the guard beam is broken. If either happen before the green comes on then you get a red light. The purpose of the guard beam is to prevent a car that's too low from holding the stage beam and getting a slower reaction time but quicker ET. The actual 1/4 mile is measured from the guard beam, I could be wrong but I think the theory is if a car is sitting in stage then the front of the car will be in line with the guard beam. Of course that's not the case most of the time and never the case with bikes but it's one of those "it's always been done that way" things.

But isn't it a foul if the guard beam is broken before the stage beam is remade? I thought that was the whole point of it (to prevent people from shortening the track by very deep staging and using a barge board to keep the stage beam broken).Tet said:

It is. Bits of carpet seem to have been popular as barge boards at one time. Tet said:

The wording in the ANDRA rulebook reads: "The third or 'guard beam' triggers the timers if it's broken in the case of very low cars. The timers also start when you clear the full-stage beam." to me this signifies that all cars competing at ANDRA meetings should use a barge board to maximise roll-out. It also seems to suggest that we can not accept any times emerging from Australia as legitimate!

Somewhat poorly worded but the same as over here, just add "If the timing is started by the guard beam the run is DQ'd"Pretty sure, unlike red lights, the rule is enforced in qualifying. Dave ?
In an attempt to resuscitate this thread, so what is new for 2015?
Have we done a "count up" thread as to how many TF, ProMods, TMD/FC etc., are likely to be at The Main event? I read somewhere that Nataas et al have quit, Stutz appears to have his focus in the US. Does anyone have a view as to the plus and minus in numbers?

I can't say for sure, but based on who I know is running and some guesses on who I'm expecting to run, I'd say probably 8 or 9 in TF, possibly as many as 11 in the unlikely event that everyone turns up, but I think that's pretty unlikely.
