My dad has been trying to sell his 9-3 estate for weeks now and hasn't had a bite.

It's an 08 Aero estate auto in blue with parchment leather, fssh, sensible miles, just serviced, no advisories, all the toys, etc. but absolutely nothing.

He had it up for 3.5k which seemed to compare very favourably with everything else I could see, but he has ended up letting WBAC drive it away for 2.5k. Crazy money for what you get.

Only things I could think of were maybe auto put people off, expensive tax, Saab parts availability, mpg, or the fact it was just pre facelift...

Apparently there are loads on eBay classifieds so maybe they are just not selling...

Funny old world.

There doesn't seem to be much demand. I've just p/x'd my 9-3 vector sport wagon. Only got 1.5k for it (half leather, Bluetooth, cruise, etc).
A real shame, because they're excellent cars!

I think 9-5 Aeros are "where it's at" at the moment, going from what I've read recently about how quickly people have sold them after putting them up for sale.

I would disagree with that. All Saabs seem to be in high demand at the moment.
Good quality car for very good money.

Maybe the advert wasn't written well enough, bad pictures, unfavorable location (furthest north Scotland for example)

Nope, really good ad, good pictures taken in nice location, car nice and clean. Car was located just south of Birmingham 5 mons from M42!

That scuppers all my arguments then!

You say a few weeks - how long?
Wrong time of year maybe, it is nearly Xmas and all that.

We can only speculate really - I still think Saabs are in high demand, there's a thread on here about how they are selling before someone can get to look at them.

expensive tax
This seems to be the bit that is crippling them and many other cars. People seem to run in fear of a couple of extra hundred quid a year and instead pay "more" for an older car just to avoid it. Nonsensical.

The number of people on UKS and the like who seem to baulk at the higher tax cars is very odd. Yes it's a vagary of the system, but simply saying "I wouldn't buy X sort of car because of the tax" is just barmy IMO. It's really weird flicking the classifieds and seeing older, even pre-facelift cars commanding higher money than later higher spec ones purely because the tax is lower.

£3.5k for an 08 aero auto in a lovely colour combo sounds bang on.

I'm looking for a 9-3 to run about in for a year or so. Only looking to spend around 1k prefer a well looked after example wth the high miles, a couple that have cropped up local so far have sold before I got a chance to view.

I agree. If tax was cheaper you'd pay more for the car and probably fuel too so it all comes out in the wash. I'm not being dictated to on what car to buy! Funnily enough the tax was part of the reason he sold, and also because he bought back his old 9000!
