That crossing is a nightmare.

The amount of times I've been stuck while german tourists cross it very very slowly smiling away at you as if they're the first to copy the Beatles and they always always get to the other side and then repeat the the process at least once

Did that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, putting up a video of someone being injured. I bet you've watched it quite a few times now.

That's not the usual fkwittery at that crossing. Any more info? It almost looks like the driver failed to stop.

Not sure on that one

The pedestrian running across the road meant she was suddenly infront of the car - but at the same tiem as a driver if you see someone at the side of the crossing you anticipate they will walk onto it.

I suspect hey accelerate because they thought if the lady was walking they would pass - didn't expect her to suddenly start running.

My thinking is along those lines too. He doesn't have long to think about it, and if she hadn't swerved then she would have passed behind him.

As soon as they put one foot on the crossing, the driver became liable.

Zebra crossings. As you approach a zebra crossing

look out for pedestrians waiting to cross and be ready to slow down or stop to let them cross
you MUST give way when a pedestrian has moved onto a crossing
allow more time for stopping on wet or icy roads
do not wave or use your horn to invite pedestrians across; this could be dangerous if another vehicle is approaching
be aware of pedestrians approaching from the side of the crossing.

By the laws of man, yes.
By the laws of physics, no.

The car was less than 10 metres away by the time the driver could have seen the pedestrian stepping onto the crossing, at which time it was too late to be able to stop.
It appears that the driver then tried to speed up so as to be past the pedestrian before she reached the car, which, in retrospect, probably turned out for the best, because had the car braked then she probably would have ended up in front of the car instead of running into its side.

If you can't see, you have to show caution.

Also says this for pedestrians.

Rule 19. Pedestrians.

Zebra crossings. Give traffic plenty of time to see you and to stop before you start to cross. Vehicles will need more time when the road is slippery. Wait until traffic has stopped from both directions or the road is clear before crossing.

If you want to be suicidal, I don't see how motorists can avoid them, she was an idiot.

She ran straight into the car - nothing the driver could do - nothing to indicate he sped up or slowed down as others have posted

Well the lemming chose to run in front of a car, he gave no chance for the driver to predict his actions when he started his sudden suicidal sprint, and he wasn't actually even on the crossing when it was hit, so game on. Perfectly legitimate pedestrian skittle. I hope the idiot got sued for damage to the car.

What would you have done in those exact circumstances?

And what of the pedestrian? Why was there a total lack of anything approaching caution on their part?
I always exercise caution when approaching a crossing as a pedestrian - but then I was brought up to understand that the laws of physics cannot be swayed.

How true, I was always taught that you need to stop look listen and then make a move, stop being important as in wait until the cars stop.
But since the motorist is always wrong mantra we get lemmings and idiots.

The problem with the above is that usually you get hurt and maybe killed pissing about and thinking the motorist is wrong, but yes they are sometimes but running into the road like a lemming is going to hurt or kill you.

Question on the video, did the car stop or carry on after?
