I am 17, thinking of getting a quicker and obviously better second car than my 1.2 Vauxhall Corsa Energy which is a first car based on cheap insurance.

Not getting this second car until next year when I have my 1 years no claims..

Not looking for a second car where the insurance is going to be sky high (any where near £2000)

any ideas or opinions on the Clio

HAVE £2500 To spend

Why create a new thread when you had this one that you started 8 hours ago?

That doesnt really warrant asking the same question twice, especially when you had answers in your other thread.

OP, I hope you realise that your screen name and it's reference to your date of birth will make a lot of people in here feel very old all of a sudden. As far as I'm concerend, there is no way that a person who was born in 1997 can be driving a car and instead you should you should only just be out-growing your Kettler pedal go-kart.
It's monday morning and now I'm depressed thanks to you. I was born in 1989 and I've just realised that now that sounds like a long time ago.

Get a quote on a 1.9tdi Peugeot 306, and a 2.0hdi. If they're not ridiculous try to find a good one of those which isn't knackred. A great car in my opinion.
That said my first car was a 2000 Clio 1.2 and I thought the mk2 was a great car. Some people have an irrational prejudice against French cars around here.
That said, the VAG idea isn't bad (although they do carry a badge premium, even Skodas these days!) and the Mini Cooper is a great car all 'round but I'm not sure you'll get a diesel one which isn't pretty ratty for 2,500.

looking for a newer car, the Clio 1.5DCi is between 2005-2008 for £2500, and yeah finding a Mini D will be too hard for the budget I have

What does a newer car represent?

I'd get the older clio. In anything but sport trim it's a better drive. Still has fair kit and looks reasonably modern.

personally think the newer clio looks nicer and the interior is nicer.. I just get the feeling that my Corsa 2004 1.2 doesn't look modern enough to me, and is in the same category as the old clios for me..

Fair enough. Wanted to make sure you were not in the 'newer = more reliable' camp.

Consider an Audi A3?

Weren't Renault making the MkII Phase3 clio intil early '07 under the 'campus' guise? If so are we talking Clio MkII or MkIII here OP?

For what it's worth I drove a Renault Scenic with the 1.5dci and was pleasantly surprised.

Thats true, cant believe people paid full price for one.

OP, didn't see your budget. A 2004 A3 or A4 can be had for £2500, but it will often have starship mileage. Prices will have gone down when you're looking to buy though.

In my experience just try and get the car you want in budget, you'll be able to insure it with a couple of hours of phone calls and clicking about.
