Just watched the BBC red button, Suzi read out a tweet...

"I keep expecting Toto Wolff to ask Eddie for his boots and his motorcycle"

Suzi: "Yeah we know what to mean, we do too"

hehe
She got more and more sarcy as the day went on , especially on the red button coverage. hehe

Laughed her at mocking Nicole's WooHoo Girls! hehe

That's a little off in my opinion.

Merc gave them both systems that were on their 3rd race. The level of testing and (especially for this race) checking would have been immense.

However, these are very complex systems, working in a massively challenging environment.

The problem is, a critical, very integrated component failed. This led to a nearly complete systemic failure. Hence the issues not only with reduced power, but throttle and braking.

The FMEA guys would have done the numbers - these things are always possible, at any time.

The fact it happened when it did isn't even bad luck - it's just statistics.
Sorry perhaps my post was a bit misleading. I wasn't implying the car had been built badly. Really just mirroring what you're saying. Nico's car was plagued with problems....
Fair enough - I always take 'Friday afternoon' to mean 'rushing with little care as I want to go get pissed down the pub - assuming I haven't already started at lunchtime'!

No worries.. My choice of phrase was a bit misleading.

Regardless, I did feel a little for Rosberg. He needed a stellar result and his car was just giving up, underneath him. Gotta be incredibly frustrating...

Great race and Lewis deserved to win the championship.

It would be good if Lewis and Nico have a good year in 2015 without the petty squabbles as they are both good drivers.

Terrific work by the director. Showing an extremely long shot from behind his car as Lewis crossed the line to take the title and then immediately cutting away to historically vital coverage of Hamilton's family jumping up and down.

At least we had a fine view of the "Etihad" emblazoned bridge.

A televisual masterpiece. clap

Absolutely. That's the problem with human thinking when statistics are all powerful - it's never comfortable.

The fact he made it to the end was a really good piece of adaptation against adversity. I'm fairly sure certain sections of the car will be 'forensically' scrutinised to understand how he managed to cope as well as he did.

To fail as badly as they did, yet not cause a spin/crash/complete breakdown is bloody lucky (or rather, exceptionally statistically unlikely!).

The ironic thing is, the lessons to be learnt from his car today make it more likely he'll be in the same position of challenge in a year's time.

is that even possible? I mean how many team-mates on equal terms both fighting for a title ever do get along?

hamilton/button seemed to get along okay IIRC.. other than that?

vettel/webber, haha.
freddy fell out with every team mate he had.
button/barichello had some publics IIRC?

going back prost, senna, etc all had their spats.

What I'm curious of is whether any of the other teams will manage to bridge the gap for next year. Renault look a bit doubtful but with Honda coming in a-fresh, will be interesting if they've managed to come up with a serious powerplant at first attempt.

Fantastic comment, to be fair if you live in a marina, 4 k is probably chicken feed, hope you get the promise in the morning lol
Oh, the morning session will be ok I am suresmile. But she is still asleep on the sofa next to me right now.

It's not really about the money, ok I can afford it but the girlfriend's ring this Christmas may have a smaller diamond. smile

Lewis is a class act, a true racer. I was stupid, pushing a bit and made an error with a lack of spatial awareness on the road and feel really stupid about it. Despite the poor rearward visibility in her new st box, I should be used to it given some of the odd cars I have owned with zero vision backwards.

I have just taken on the marina place after a split with my wife but still totally funding the old family home, so £4k is fairly significant this month. But you know, despite the fact that I was close to Keke years ago, I still waned Lewis to win. He is a really nice lad and seriously talented. Well deserved.

So chuffed for him. Despite what others may say on here, he really is a decent lad. I am just so glad that my girlfriend makes Nicole look ordinary side by side as I do have an edge there on Lewis!!

It wasn't a classic race, or a classic end to the season, but the whole weekend had a nice feel to it.

A few hours on and I'm still getting goosebumps watching Hamilton's start - especially the on-board. When he was complaining on the formation lap about having low revs I thought he was going to throw it away, so to see him fly off the line and clear of Nico was good to see.

I also have a lot of new-found respect for Nico. I still don't like him as a person, but he's been so doggedly resistant all season, and I admired him a lot for wanting to make it to the end and finish the season on his terms. A lot of drivers (and I bet Lewis included) would have boxed with two laps to go and retired. It was a shame to see him get lapped. He didn't deserve that. But he never gave up and he should be proud of that.

Seeing as this is a forum about cars I'd like to congratulate Aldo Costa on his designing the brilliant Mercedes W05. His first championship winning car since the 2008 Ferrari. Ever since he left, their cars have gone backwards, and Mercedes have done the opposite since he joined.

Next time they are together I will take a pic and post it. I don't have one right now as my photo archive is back on the server at the family home.

This is only the second ever race my wife has watched, last time was Brazil in 2008, and we know how that one worked out too. Well done Lewis.
Can you book her a ticket to Abu Dhabi 2015, just in case Lewis needs a good luck charm ? hehe
Just waiting for a call from his manager for an invite wink

Right, up, showered, hangover, and time to go to the airport. What a fantastic weekend

Well now that was f***ng exciting.

Anyone know why the Lotus boys were quite so delighted with the Maldonado portable BBQ car?!
Given the season they've had with that car there isn't much else you can do but laugh.

IIRC in 2007 or 2008 the Honda was so bad the mechanics taped a lighter in to the cockpit and left a note saying "use this after race" at the final round.
I did wonder if they were laughing because they didn't need to rebuild it and were planning on just chucking it in a box back to France. hehe Of if they were just amazed at how long it took to put out!

Yep, fog.

Said goodby to some friends last night at 11pm on their way to the airport, and they have just taken off after being sat on the plane for 7 hours.

Believe it's not so much the fog, more that it makes the runways very slippy (too much dust & sand?)

Anyway, 4 hour delay for us, which is not too bad.
