For second car? £1300 on insurance ( will be 18 )

Anyone got experience of these cars? The fuel consumption, how they are to drive, good at beating many cars at the lights?

Beating cars at the lights? not really. I owned one and it's not at all quick - around 9.5 seconds to 60. Being a Fiesta the handling is great though, and I got 47mpg from mine, although talking about racing people at the lights sounds like you won't get anywhere near that.

Current or older one?

Either way, should be great for a first car, I had three Fiestas in a row. They drive well, are reliable, and cost buttons to run. smile

Try driving round Brighton, people seem to pull away so infuriatingly slowly that it will beat everything here...

They have just about enough power to be an ok daily car but not enough to be massively exciting. They're supposed to handle quite well though. The Fiestas chassis receives a lot of praise.

I have had mine for nearly 6 years now (55 plate) it has been good for the most part, the only negative during that time is a blown headgasket recently.

In terms of beating people off the line...well you won't be beating too many people I can assure you of that. It's just not a quick car, although I'm not that sort of driver. It is a very fun car to drive though and I have enjoyed the 6 years of ownership.

It's cheap to run, I regularly get between 40-45 mpg and parts are cheap too if anything does go wrong. I do feel as if I have now out grown it being 23, however with it being just your second car it would seem to be a good fit.

Don't Autocar now have a rating for this as part of their reviews?

Have you tried getting an insurance quote? Can't be too thirsty if you drive sensibly most of the time...

Are you planning on waiting until you have 1 years NCB? Will make a big difference to the premium
