Apologies if this isn’t the right forum but can anyone recommend either a bodyshop or paintshop that will do an excellent job on my TVR. Following an accident repair late last year I have been left with a car having had a full respray and looking in many areas, appalling. For example windscreen trim not having been removed (let alone screen) and paint now literally peeling away from this, paint so soft a 2mm stone chip is now almost 2cm in size and can be picked away with my fingernail, run marks in the lacquer, white marks in the paint, overspray, paint so soft roof panels have dug into it etc.
I’m going through the motions with the insurers at present (theres not a cat in hells chance I’ll let the original repairers near the car again for various reasons that aren’t important to this post) and this may well end up going down the legal route. I’ve had my own independent inspection done and their assessment is the paint is not finished to an industry acceptable standard and for many reasons, ideally needs fully stripping back to gel coat and re-doing.
However, in the meantime, regardless I need to find somewhere I can take my car to, have it stripped back and resprayed – I’m aware of some of the recommended TVR shops and know of good and bad but TVR specialists aren’t the only ones with GRP experience. Does anyone on here have recommendations for this type of work? I’m assuming potentially there are a number of specialists who look after kit and custom cars with this sort of bodywork?

Ok

The ones I know are all a bit far.

I highly rate kustom 101 at tewkesbury, they did work on my Alpine GTA and paint cars for Ginetta, they also did work on my Tuscan. There is often a range of exotics in the paintshop, they have an ISO Grifo in bits. If you are prepared to travel that far the main man is called Jeff.

I think TVR Power have a bodyshop, but I am not sure where it is, they will be used to GRP

Take a trip to ChipsAway Cambridge (they do much more than chips) and have a word with the owner Tol.
He's an honest chap and if he doesn't want to do the job because he can't he'll recommend someone that can.

Some names spring to mind, SMS in Spalding, Option1 in Bromsgrove. Perhaps you could even ask some professional restoration shops or marque experts who they use for painting etc (David Gerald TVR specialist).

As you indicated there are many specialists out there, it's just sifting out the good ones. The first two I mentioned are frequently referred to on Lotuselan.net. I will be searching next year to have my Elan S4 sprayed ( prep myself, at least thats the plan).

Best of luck with the search.

I can recommend Essex Autosport in Kelvedon, they do all of our paintwork and do a brilliant job and are Lotus specialists so well used to fibreglass.

Not had any paintwork done by them, but have used them for spares in the past.
