Hi,

Keen to move back to Volvo after some years and really need a estate, open to options on Auto or Manual and engine size/fuel.

£6000 on next spring prices (May 2015) when funds will allow.

What model would you recommend and why ?

Replies appreciated,

Martyn

I'm running a 2008 V70 2.4 diesel, previously a 2006 old shape, same engine. My son runs a 2 litre four pot diesel. Both nice engines.

Lots about, I'd go for a manual, having heard of repair costs for autos. Just had a flywheel and clutch at 252,000 miles. The old one was perfect at 230,000 when I left it.

The only thing I didn't like about the old shape was its huge turning circle. Nightmare in tight car parks.

Realistically a V70 if you want a large estate

Manual, D5 either 163 or 185bhp (drive both but I've never found much difference, avoid the AWD unless you live at the top Ben Nevis or similar as its hardly a quattro system more so a front drive system that very occasionally sends power rewards - more hassle than its worth.

If fuel economy isn't an issue then go for a T5 or better still, the very lovely 300bhp R. Again, manual is the better choice. Advanrages of the petrol over a Euro 4 and above diesel is no DPF.

Spec wise, leather is nice, as is the dolby prologic stereo, sat nav is largely crap so don't worry about finding one with it. With the V70 also, Some wheels look much nicer than others but its hardly a deal breaker

V50 is a decent enough steer but less of a "proper" Volvo than a V70 and more of a "lifestyle" estate so the boot is not exactly huge
