Do people seriously spend 700 notes on a bloody jacket?

Or do they just want everyone to think they spend 700 notes on a jacket?

There's so much more I'd rather buy.
I suggest you take a look at the posts on the watch forum.

I guess some of the people (like me!) got those jackets on sale for a lot cheaper! Plus depending what you do it can be very important to have a jacket that you can trust (i.e. stuck on a mountain in -25C)!

I'd go for layers for the UK, a 3 in 1 jacket, Gore-Tex outer if you can stretch to it with a zip-in fleece liner that stays there through the winter and is removed in the warmer months. Warmer than you imagine and more versatile than all these jackets that are being recommended with "probably too warm".
He mentioned he didn't like layering, but needed it for down to -15C, hence the warm jackets!

Is it the goretex one? I have one, its way too warm, I never really wear it, im not sure if the goretex on mine has had it as the goretex doesn't seem to breath anymore. I might give it another try.

If your looking for one its Austrian.
Have you washed it? You're supposed to wash Gore Tex every so often to help make it breathe again. But google to check how to do it, or you'll remove the waterproofing!

Is the debate something along the lines of how much of an asshat you look? smile

yeah, but from doing a bit of reading it needs to be tumble dryed for 40 minutes... to activate the coating, sounds odd but I will give it a try, it probably needs re-proofing, it is an army surplus jacket after all.

As I said, it makes for good debates, always!

I know they are from the same company as Stone Island, but it is a very different brand,,as far as associations with the normal types associated with such brands.

Still it's my favourite jacket, and has been for over a year, it's getting well used this week too with the cold snap, so I am happy with it!

I've got quite a bit from CP, Stone Island, Nemen, Paul & Shark and Moncler, it is all far better quality than Armani/Boss etc and that's why I buy it.

I think the trick is layers. I have stuff from Rab, Montane, and just got a Tommy Hilfiger bomber jacket which was a stupid amount of money for a logo, but it looks nice and is just as warm if not warmer.

I don't think we have cold enough winters here in the UK for it to matter too much tbh.

Reminds me of something that guy out of Falling Down who runs the army store might wear.

You also get stuff to wash it with to help improve the waterpoofing too, smile

Yeap, for cold temperatures when standing around with the combined need for waterproofing means you really need to layer to get it optimal. I used to hate layering, but really need to do it and do see the big benefit.

I often see people walking about city centres in lowland Britain, wearing fairly serious down gear and I often find myself wondering how they'd cope in real winter conditions - ie hills and mountains in Scottish winter.

I mean you see people wandering about towns wearing kit that would be more at home in the Himalayas hehe

Napapijri every time for me. Proper kit. Served me well in both Arctic and Antarctic.

I've got one of their gilet's, I think I have only ever had it zipped up once!

It is stylish, but also proper kit designed and tested by Norwegian arctic maniacs. I actually look forward to really cold days when I can justifiably pull out my Antarctic Napapjiri puffa - its a mobile duvet.

ETA: Bugger - shouldn't have looked at that site. I've gone and ordered that blue Camo jacket now.

hehe I wanted to get the Open Skidoo one but luckily for my bank balance a friend beat me to it and turned up in it a few weeks ago!

lovely jacket - but I'd guess if the OP is looking for total insulation from any form of cold then the Carolla would be the one to go for - although I would hang it up in the back of that stewagon rather than chuck it in the boot
