Most drivers in the country drive at 40mph even if the limit is 20mph,30mph,40mph,50mp or 60mph.

I call it Suffolk's A12 disease...

The casualty number in that EDP report is horrifying, but to suggest that it's
only down to speed is very misleading. Needless to say, the nanny-state will
have its way... frown

Has anybody seen any further information on this? The article is a bit short on detail when it comes to what they classify as a rural road. There are plenty of single track roads with close hedges that 99% of drivers wouldn't consider passing 40 on already yet there are sections of B road that match up with a good A road for quality.

I was wondering that. Let's hope good sense prevails, but looking at the comments on the EDP, I fear the slow brigade will have its way. banghead

The slow brigade already make Norfolk roads miserable. We have to properly campaign to stop them from getting their way and maybe get the police to start treating these rolling roadblocks with the attention they deserve.

yes Bloody monospeeders.

Met one this afternoon. 40mph all the way on a nice straight road with nothing in front.

Maybe its just me, but I really feel like driving right up to them and pushing them along.

Mostly its the old doddering sods who get out of their comfort zone of the town and brake on every corner or if a car come the other way.

Personally on some roads I think there should be a minimum speed limit.

As for 40mph. I think it was the Tories in Suffolk in the 80s that went mad and introduced the 30 limit for every village regardless of how stupid. Unless of course a tree is going to suddenly jump out.

More excuses for speeding tickets were a 'dangerous road' for decades was 60 Mph

The 30 mph limits in Suffolk are generally the work of one man. A LIB DEM by the name of Peter Monk who was head of the
Roads and Transport Committee for Suffolk County Council. Apart from 30 mph in villages the speed limit rules were
changed to allow Parish Councils to set the extent of these limits. The majority went crazy and extended their village
limits to include open countyside with no regard to the frustration caused to motorists.

Oh it was a libdem man was it? It about sums up the handwringers. I remember it all coming into effect in the 1980s so I presumed it was the tories. So I was told...wrongly!
