Afternoon guys,

I have had a wheel wobble on my car, mostly between 60-75, since I got it, i've tried various things including balancing several times and it's driving me crazy and spoiling the car for me.

I'd really, really appreciate it if someone without a wheel vibration issue would let me swap my wheels over with theirs for 5 minutes so I could diagnose if it's my wheels/tyres at fault or not.

Can anyone help?

Cheers,
Ricky.

Sounds like it's buckled rather than out of balance.

Can you try swapping front to rear & see if that helps?

Have you had the wheel bearings checked? I would let you swap but sadly I am in Inverness. If you get no joy here ask on Focusstoc, plenty of Aberdeen lads on there.

Ok... Brief story of fault diagnosis...

Initial 19'' wheels and tyres = wobble
Brand new 18'' wheels and winter tyres = still wobble

3 wheel bearings have been replaced in the last year. Both rears, incl hubs, changed recently, which fixed a droning at the rear. I can't really feel it through the seat but can feel/see a pulsing/vibration in the wheel. Pretty much disappears at 85+

Garage says the winter tyres I have aren't round, after I asked them to balance my wheels again and investigate a bit.

Really don't know what to make of it.

Don't know if this is it, but mine had the same.

Took wheels to get checked and wasn't the wheels or tires. Found engine was touching driveshaft.

Engine mount is a common problem on these, get it replaced asap (if this is what it is). Drivers side front wheel, take it off and check behind it, you'll probably see a belt close to the driveshaft. It was my top engine mount that was goosed.

These things have so much torque the mounts are a common problem. I'd replace with an uprated item.

Hope that helps, if it's not that then I'm not sure.

Cheers
Scott

Should also add that I had a huge bulge on the inside tire wall of the same wheel. But I'd check the engine mounts anyway, as common problem.

Have you tried new brake discs?

Sometimes pad pick-up on the discs can feel like a wheel wobble

<dons cowboy hat>

if they are floating calipers and you knock them off the discs it can sometimes remove the problem until you hit the brakes

just if you knock the calipers back off the discs you have no brakes until you get the calipers pumped up again

Don't try this in a busy area on a public road

Had new discs and pads all round in my possession, braking makes no difference to the wobble.

... Anyone with a focus ST willing to lend me their wheels for 5 mins? I'll do all the leg work...

Not yet but i'm working on the car tonight so I could. So I am checking to see if the engine/belts are coming into contact with the driveshaft?

Can't wait to fix this, so annoying.

As far as I can tell the engine mounts are ok. No sign the engine is sitting lower than it should do.

Shotty of some wheels any ST'ers? smile
