Everything I expected and more with the exception to the bore scoring issues. One car I needed to own and lusted after since a kid really. I couldn't stretch to the gen II model with the reliable DFI engine so the bore scoring was always at the back of my mind. In fact I couldn't quite believe how well known and real the problem was, it very nearly ruined the dream!
I didn't buy through the Porsche network but their warranty is bumper to bumper so gives you total peace of mind.
My car had covered 70k without any signs of scoring so the chances of the engine developing problems were very slim. Apart from that, amazing to drive, great quality cabin, albeit dull compared to TVRs but they eat the miles in comfort and I used mine every day.
They are expensive to maintain through the main dealer network, specialists are well known and cheaper but I was always tinkering so spent some cash.
I will be back to Porsche if the gen II cheapens but they will only become more attractive as the gen I ages.
I ended up selling back to the dealer I bought from as I needed to free up some cash in the end.

Seen figures on here showing about 350 made, but who knows?
There are 239 shown in the UK on "How many left".

I'm toying with going the other way - downgrading to a Porsche 911 - 997 Gen II Targa auto DSG wothisname. I love mincing around in my E39 530i for daily use, and 'er indoors hates it whenever I push the loud pedal in the TVR so I get to enjoy it less these days. I'm thinking of changing to one car which is fun when I want it to be but can do my occasional 100 mile commute without deafening me and can cruise/mince around when needed. I could use the TVR but I want an auto for daily use now.

We'll see next spring/summer once the Mrs has changed her car. If she gets a Juke (which she wants) then we have a dump/daily car smile

If the car you are talking about is the red one in your profile that is one beautiful looking car. Personally I would wait until after August next year to sell it.

Funnily enough that will be around the time I will have finished our trip to Croatia in my recently acquired Griffith, which I said would be the last car I bought. smile

Regards

Nick
