The ever helpful tolerant Emma at D.Lovett Tewsbury rang me on Friday to say my car is on a train heading for the port. Should be with them this week.

Quick thank you to all the help and advice that has been forthcoming from you guys on this forum. I have presented the service dept with a fair old list of checks and requests. The plan is they fully prepare and valet it , then call me to come in and check it over. Whilst I am there I will be put through an intensive familiarisation program. My daughter is then going to drop Molly and I off a few days later to collect our shiny red GT3 . Weather permitting!

Is there any thing else that I should know?
Having read this, I would prefer to mine coal, than work in an OPC

Yes...firstly....enjoy the car. Seriously....just enjoy the car.

Secondly.....dont worry about the weather...it's a car.
Obviously don't give it a name and please allow the suffering Service Department / OPC time to disconnect the massive red telephone they must have needed to install, to deal with your daily requests and 'pending 'thorough familiarisation plan'.

Perhaps a bunch of flowers for them....they will deserve it

Get it detailed before they touch the paintwork. Might cost about £250 but it'll be worth it.

When I go to my OPC I often have a joke with them about anal customers and ones that want extra special treatment. I find it all a tad embarrassing when they ponder over me so tell them to stop it at once. My OPC handed my car over to me in a normal state, after a weeks worth of driving I then took it to ultimate finish to detail and apply glass coat. No matter how bad you think an OPC washes a car it's not going to do any more permanent damage to it as to the paintwork when it came out of factory. Any new car has some swirls, that's why many choose to go the detail route. Personally I hate and am st at waxing cars so will just get a glass coat and maintain it. I also wouldn't worry about sticking film over the front, it reminds me of them people that leave the plastic on their phones who struggle with it for a year just so when you get rid of it the next pleb can have a nice shiny screen

Completely agree ...I even asked them to take off the cover you get over the car when you collect and not to bother with the little name badge .

Rob, I do think you are being unnecessarily cautious about this car. I've now taken mine out in all weathers and it's been fine since it tapped me on the shoulder by stepping out on the first drive home from the dealer. It doesn't have the wet weather grip of a turbo nor indeed the low end urge but comes into its own at higher RPM. Stay on the cautious side of, say, 4000 rpm and you might even wonder what all the fuss is about.

So, just enjoy the car, it's there to be driven. It's not going to dissolve in wet weather nor does it need to be babied in any way, much more of a daily driver than I expected.

Hahaha,, done 700 miles and on an chip inspection earlier I still appear to have none. I remember picking up my workhorse Zafira and getting a dirty great stone whacking my window leaving a huge chip in eye view.

We were so excited when we took delivery of our first Aston that we just wanted a quick handover so we could get out there & get to know it. Rob is, as you can tell, really excited about taking delivery of this car because we realise how lucky we are to be getting a GT3. Unfortunately the attention to detail on this occasion has come about because it has been a PITA to have to make so many return visits to the Aston dealership over the past few years so we want to make sure that this car is right first time.

Another reason for Rob having so many questions for the OPC is that we parted company with our Aston back in August and since then, with no car to play with, he has read every word that you lot have written on the 'Prospective' thread and built up his list from there (plus watched every video and read every review of the 991 GT3 that ever made it onto the internet!). I really hope that all will be well when the car arrives & that we won't be a PITA for the dealership.

PS No real worries about the weather unless there are major extremes of wet or cold. We've both got plenty of experience of driving in wet/cold/snow/icy conditions

PPS Ironic perhaps but we both know all about PITA customers having been on the other side of the showroom desk

PPS We promise not to be too 'precious' about it, not to name it and to get out there and use it like Porsche intended

Err, this list, how many items are on it? If it runs to more than 10 pages of A4, the salesman's going to need more than a bunch of flowers to recover. More like a stiff drink.

FWIW, I recently visited OPC Tewkesbury for the first time and think the dealership looks good, lots of space and they gave me a decent price for a pair of rear tyres for my turbo - those centre locks are a pain and any remaining premium is like an insurance policy.

All I have to do now is persuade the car to start to get it there. It's currently marooned in a private underground car park in London with a flat battery which of course requires an ancillary source of power to open the bonnet to get at it. Trying to start it yesterday gave a whole new range of never-before-seen error messages.

Rob .... Not sure if anyone else had this .... But when I got my car home and reversed it onto the drive ... Right full lock there was a loud graunching / rubbing from the front right wheel ... Got the noise going forwards and backwards. This later proved to be the disk backing plate rubbing .... Which subsequently required modifying ( for which I read as needed bending).

I would suggest that before you leave the dealership just try the car on full lock left and right forwards and reverse. May save you a trip back.

Cheers.

Mines filthy, drive it daily in this wet weather. Been through all that wrap it in cotton wool stuff before and it deters the enjoyment of ownership. Granted, I do not park it up in Tescos and the like..
