I drive a new Golf GTI with DSG daily and I think it is soooo boring. I bought it because it does a job of getting me to work and I can leave anywhere without worrying. Would I rather drive my Escort Cosworth? Definitely. It's harder to drive, engaging, and most importantly fun. If you are a petrol head you want a car that is fun. A car you wake up and look forward to driving.
Kayc, these Porsches are engaging, fun, and harder to drive.
It's an event that is being lost on the new era of modern car.

I totally agree and that's I why I was buying these cars 5 or 6 years ago when I sold my 996tt for the reasons you state..my point is these cars haven't changed at all but as their prices have gone up 'newbies' now start warbling on about how amazing they are!..they still have same charm/attribute/characteristics that they always had when they were a third of the price!Personally I think unless extremely rare the older air-cooled cars are way over valued supported purely by cheap funding.I drive a new Golf GTI with DSG daily and I think it is soooo boring. I don't think it's simply a case of 'newbies' seeing the light like you did 5 or 6 years ago.The same could apply to a whole host of classic cars such as a Ford Mexico, an early Lotus Espirit etc etc regarding how they drive compared to new cars,investment potential, demand and increasing prices blah blah

I agree. Both SC's and 3.2's used to be seen as enthusiasts cars and those that bought them did so for the raw slightly agricultural drive, heavier feel which is so rewarding when you get a chance to drive them properly. The same traits often put a lot of people off. More people are now attracted to them as they've shot up in value.Short term it's good news as some cars which are need of expenditure should see more love and attention. Longer term these cars are still relatively expensive to maintain (rust being the main concern) and if we see a drop in value I expect to see the non-enthusiasts cooling off.
These things tend to go in cycles.
