Hello Kyodo, someone else with the best of both worlds, Boxster S and a Ferrari , for me these two cars as toys are all you could or would ever want.I consider myself so fortunate and never take it for granted.Mike

So as to cost of ownership? From a previous post; "18000 miles in four years. 7k depreciation, 15k in servicing and maintenance and 5k in upgrades. Not including insurance and petrol, ownership was £1.51 a mile"

Majority of my depreciation was avoidable - could have had it serviced and the stone chips touched in and sold it privately, and would have probably reduced the depreciation to a couple of grand. Would have cost me most of that to get the paint done properly though so was not really viable. Also I bought private and traded it, so factor that in.

Regards the servicing, it was all done at a good Indy, and I didn't scrimp. Biggest bill was when the thrust bearing went, damaging the flywheel in the process. Got the clutch done at the same time - cost around a third of the total servicing cost quoted above. Thought it was the gearbox for a short spell - replacement quoted at £12k worryingly, but turned out not.

They're reliable cars and not madly expensive to keep right, but things like ball joints should be assumed to be consumable. There will come a time when your two grand a year budget will be absolutely hammered - other years it will be fine. Don't scrimp though or you'll make it unsellable. There's plenty out there so competition will always be high. Mine was used for all sorts from track days to mid-winter run outs to the odd commuting. Sure costs could be controlled by limiting use to high days and fine days.

On the mpg front, we did Le Mans from Scotland a couple of years back; the 360 used 342.8 litres of fuel in total giving an mpg of 24.9mpg. Bearing in mind this was a fairly exuberant trip with plenty of triple digit sprints, that wasn't bad!

In summary? Just do it. Even if it ultimately ruins you, at least you can say you did it.

This.

My f-i-l was 95 last week, he's in a home bedbound and fed through a tube for over a year. His wife is in a dementia home.

He had a very good job as an architect, but they've always lived fairly frugally, had run of the mill cars, Corolla, Datsun Cherry, etc, always saved for retirement. The house is sold, and they're paying just under £2k a week in care fees.

He was a bit disdainful when I started looking at 360s etc a few years ago. The other week he said "I wish I'd spent my money on a nice bloody car now".

I agree, my wife was in hospital last week and as I. Looked at the other people on her ward. Not only did I feel for them as they were mostly ladies of quite tender years with dementia and various ailments I said to my wife that I was so pleased that we have our nice sports cars.

I also said that when I am. In that same predicament of old age and all that comes with it I want to say that I am I glad we did and not I wish we had.. The problem is that a great many of us were so bloody conditioned by the austerity of our pasts we somehow find it hard to reconcile.
There's a poem somewhere of living our lives back to front and ending in an orgasm, I quite like that, Mike

I think that eBay listing might be a scam. The F430 is listed on Autotrader with the same set of photos as a private sale and is also listed on the Boyztoyz website.

The 599 that the eBay seller has listed is also on Autotrader with the same set of photos as a private sale.

You should buy sooner rather than later, check out Voicys data on prices, I think the correct 360 is grossly under priced at the moment, For 55/60 k you can get a top car that is only ever going to get rarer.
A new Range Rover evoque costs about as much, I know where I would rather my money was..Mike

The data from Aldous may suggest the pricier cars have remained on the market though, perhaps adding a few % to the perceived rise in value. I think there's no doubt they've risen (that'll keep my wife happy!) but realistically it may be more like 10-15% rather than 20+. There is a little speculating by some dealers too I feel...

That's exactly what the data suggests and I tried to communicate it in the write up.

The same thing happened last winter - all the good sub £40k (and early £40k) cars got bought in January, leaving the expensive cars on the market. This pushed up average prices (as it has done this time round). Subsequently, cars new to the market were priced off this more expensive average.

It will be interesting to see what happens this time round - will buyers be prepared to pay the new higher prices?

It seems so. Although a coupe not a spider, this was priced at £41500 since October, and I wondered whether £40k might buy it in January. But the dealer clearly knows more about the market than I do. He put the price up to £44500 a fortnight ago, and it sold in two weeks!!
