Quite a few years since we looked at Land Rovers so can anyone bring me up to speed.

Who are considered to be the best specialists nowadays? Obviously I know of Nene Overland and French's, but who else should we be looking at?

I'm looking for a 2007+ TDCI Defender SWB.

Nene Overland - At least Dick Turpin wore a mask! laugh

Seriously though, you get what you pay for & if you're looking in earnest, I would also include Main Dealers too although obviously the more rural ones tend to have more Defender stock. The 90 is always popular so be prepared to either pay up or hunt for a good one & be quick off the mark when it comes.

I have also heard some good things about The Man for Land Rovers in Sussex & also RCV in Kent.

Well in principle we have bought what I hope will be something that will give us a few years of service. It is coming from Nene Overland.

A 2007 (57) 2,4 TDCI Defender 90 in Java Black with Boost Alloys and Checker Plate Wing Tops, Black Mondas County Trim.

It's done 50,000 miles and has had a brand new engine fitted last month. Now normally I would avoid anything with a new engine like the plague, but this did appeal. The new engine was fitted by Marshalls of Market Harborough, it has the balance of 2 years warranty on it. I've spoken to them directly and was told the engine was replaced was that the old one developed a knock. I was actually quite surprised that someone would have taken a 7 year old Defender to a main dealer for a new engine and I was told that the customer did make a part payment to it. So I'm assuming the car possibly had some sort of Extended Warranty on it and I'm also hopeful that it's an indication they really cared about the car.

Other than that before we collect it, it's going into the workshop to be prepared. There drivers side sill is going to be re-sprayed as the paint has worn down to primer. It ill be treated with Waxoyl and he Drivers Seat Back needs new foam.

Is there anything else people would suggest we get done to it whilst it's in the workshop?

No doubt we will do a few upgrades when it arrives.
