Seat Leon Cupra Mk 1. 180 Brake and moderately quick. Will get a good one for £3k. I paid that for my 2004 with 57k on it nearly three years ago. Might even get a Cupra R?

Makes no difference to us.

May make a difference to your insurance quote though.

There was a 540i on EBay for 3,600 yesterday. A little bit more but you can justify it because of V8.

Just got an e46 M3 cab that owes us £3600 I think that is as good as any £3k can be spent.

Failing that £3500 would get you a Clio 197

Or a nice Peugeot 205 Gti now appreciating by 20 per cent a year ish.

Clio Williams

Megane 225

Mercedes clk 2003 onwards

2004 Saab Aero convertible

Used to be able to get a Porsche 968 in budget but not any more try a 944 S2 Cab

The Fiesta is better built, but has a pretty gutless engine. The 182 is more powerful, lighter, and a lot of fun. Still miss mine.

968's will be some way out of budget. A 944S2 that's worth owning won't fit within £3k either, unless you take a risk and get lucky (and cabs tend to be a bit more expensive than coupes).

£3k is about the going rate for a reasonable 944 Lux though. And they are great things to drive down an interesting road.

Clio 1x2. It won't be a dog and they're a hoot! You'll end up wanting to spend your budget again on making an ST150 quicker. Going from a 300bhp Polo I never felt the need to make my clio quicker, I just concentrated on making it handle amazingly.

As I said, you used to be able to get a 968 at this price but not any more.

Ok it was £4200; but came with £600 cashback (hardtop).

Webuyanycar offered £3200 which thought was rather good of them.

Is it any good? I didn't realise they were about for so little, and I really like E46 M3s (even the cab - it means you can hear the straight 6 even better).

Yeah its great but a bit scruffy, wheels need refurb, no rust just a couple of bits round it... please bear in mind it was bought from a cars wanted for cash and not privately or auction etc etc etc

To be fair they make £4500+ in car auctions and can sell for £5500 to £7000

For me the buy of the year was a 928 S4 manual, one former keeper, every bill from new in dull red which machine polished up to immaculate order for £3800... it had just had £700 spent getting through mot.
