Gents
You may remember my recent post about doing the Rally Of The Tests in my Healey. As a result of my highly enjoyable escapades I now need a new pair of silencers. Although they don't look to bad from above in the photos, they are severely battered and cracked on the underside. They are not off the shelf items and neither is the bracketry which they hang off, so I am looking for someone who can make me an identical pair. Obviously I will send them the old pair to use as a pattern. Any suggestions as to a suitably skilled and reliable stainless steel, fabricator who can do the job reasonably promptly would be gratefully recieved.

From experience, guys who make custom exhausts will usually prefer to have the car, especially if you're looking for some changes to give you more clearance.

Is there anybody within driving distance?

Otherwise you may be looking at some off-the-shelf jobs.

My exhaust system was made to the orginal manufacturer drawings by PD Gough in Nottingham, and it's been very good. I'm not sure whether they make their own silencers or just source them from somewhere, but it might be a starting point.

A friend has just had a very satisfactory job done (on a custom 1950s pick up) by Infinity Exhausts of Gloucester, they were chosen over our other local outfit Bell's of Swindon as Infinity could do the job in a couple of days. Both are worth a shout tho'...

Not sure where you are but Powerspeed in Ashford are excellent, and are well used to classics and one-offs.

You could try JP Exhausts in Macclesfield, they are very helpful, skilled and good value. Speak to Jim. There seems to be very little they can't do on the exhaust front. Certainly worth a phone call.

If its only the silencers themselves required take a look at Jetex exhausts in the Midlands - import good quality Simons absorbtion tube mufflers from Europe in mild steel and stainless in many sizes and diameters

I got in touch with Jetex when I needed a pair of replacement silencers, but they didn't have what I wanted and, as you said, they only import, they don't manufacture (or not in the UK, at least) or didn't then.

I have a pair of bespoke stainless steel 3" id absorbtion tube made by Hayward & Scott, Basildon on mine. There are other choices out there - Magnaflow, again will be an import but they do many sizes and styles.

These guys made me a custom 3" single pipe system for my 928 and it's a great piece of work. Also the best sounding 928 at saturday's meet, by a mile! :-)

I'd second Bell's. They made up new silencer boxes for my Bristol quickly and for very reasonable money.

I'd second Hayward & Scott, but since it's a classic - try Maniflow. Renowned for Mini exhausts, so maybe they can help you put.

I would recommend BTB

They made a batch of BMW Z1 twin exit stainless steel silencers in the correct aero / wing profile and have a motorsport pedigree.
