dont know roger, could be something simple

just remembered as thought nothing of it at the time when i had to take out the radiator the expansion tank did not drain out
with the radiator out and hoses disconected the expansion tank still held all the coolant that was in it
is that normal or should the coolant drain out of it.

tried the cheapest option, new radiator cap, coolant still coming out the expansion tank

True. It doesn't show the bonnet up though!
Paul, your car seems to have a curious trait of pushing the bonnet up every time it stops

But good to hear the motor didn't suffer any harm after the "call-out"
