Following on from this thread in the archive: http://www.pistonheads.com/GASSING/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I'd like to find out more, as they get mentioned fairly frequently on other threads. Do we know who they are yet and what they do?

It's a group-thinking beast that excretes absolutist ideas.

Mention by James Delingpole here...

He describes it as a "secretive Fabian organisation". So maybe this should be broadened to the Fabian Society too. IIRC they get a mention by Peter Hitchens quite often.

I've only learnt of them this year. Someone commented that a top position within an Office of Police & Crime Commissioner (OPCC) was a Freemason, so I looked at the OPCC website with all of the people working in it and what their functions are and I thought 'they can't all be Freemasons'. Then when I heard of Common Purpose and what they get up and I looked at the list of staff again and I thought that they could be Common Purpose.

There's a few of them in the police. Perhaps the Constable's Oath should have a little asterix on the bottom and link to some text on the reverse side about Common Purpose?

You have to take anything said by Delingpole with a healthy dose of tinfoil. So secretive are Common Purpose that they even have, whisper it who dares, a .... website, and file accounts with the Charities Commission. Classic Illuminati Bilderberg Space Lizard stuff.

This forum never ceases to amaze me. If one were to suggest that man never landed on the moon, or that 9/11 was the work of the CIA, (justified) ridicule would ensue. Yet the idea that some socialist think tank is controlling all of the top jobs in public office is widely embraced.

I haven't suggested anything. IMO it would be interesting to know what they do, and their aims seeing as there appears to be many high profile politicians and journalists who support them or are a member etc. It's not exactly obvious what the membership benefits are.

On a good day, NPE can be one of the loopiest far right fora not associated with a political grouping. People will belive anything if it supports the world view that everything is a vast conspiracy by some people from Hampstead and/or possibly some foreigners.

Common Purpose teaches mediocre people to think they have leadership qualities and that education and learning (other than the sort of learning they sell of course) come second to the 'Collab' (network of other Common Purpose drones).
They teach a communitarian view of the world and encourage networking between alumni - this inevitably leads to the left's equivalent of the Old Boy Network,
It's popular in Public Services which is why you see a lot of mediocre management and failed managers from one area popping up in another.
Also popular in the BBC and the Labour Party. And with Breadders I see, quelle surprise.

Common Purpose isn't popular with me at all. I give not one hoot about it, and regard most management colleges and life coachery set ups as a load of old toss; but I am laughing at the Delingpole notion that CP is some sort of secret lefty cabal that is taking over the World.

Not the world, just the quangos, local government, civil service, BBC, some charities, some think tanks etc.

Seeing Socialist conspiracies is a sign of a Fascist, as seeing Fascist conspiracies is a sign of a Socialist.

Police & Crime Commissioners?

A UKIP coalition wouldn't be enough to get them out of public life would it?

Given some PCCs could well be Common Purpose and rub shoulders with Common Purpose people in the public and third sector would Labour really abolish PCCs?

This makes an interesting, if over long, read;

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2233681/Le...

- it's mentioned in the Delingpole piece.

The Middleton woman and the Bell bloke are certainly well connected. But conspiracy? Hmmm

As a child it was once explained to me that politics is like the face of a clock. At 5 past 12 you have you Fascists. At quarter past you have your extreme right wingers and at six o'clock you have your total liberals. Quarter to 12 and you have met the hard left and at five to 12 you have your Communists.
