I think I might have been caught speeding on the M60 in the average speed cameras. How long does it normally take for the ticket to come through.

The registered keeper must receive the S172 request within 14 days of the alleged offence.

How do you know you were caught? Were you significantly over the posted limit for a fair amount of time?

Out of interest, does anyone know of a case where someone has actually been done by average speed cameras? I don't know of anyone.

As above, how much over was you? and for how long?

They do seem to have quite an average tolerance tbh. I've not pushed it too far, but an average of around 55-57 (60+ on speedo) from the M602 to junc 18 hasn't put anything through my letterbox.

There is regularly people batting it at 60+, so someone must know something I don't.....

I always thought it was 14 days plus 3 days for postage, so 17 days.

That providing you are the registered keeper. If it's a rental or they have to trace you they get longer I think.

The S172 must be delivered on the RK within 14 days. As first class post is deemed served next day, the authority must post on the 13th day. It is of course possible in a rural area especially that the S172 won't be recieved until a couple of days later.

Rentals are no different, however as the RK is very likely the rental company, they have 28 days to respond. There is no target set for a S172 on a nominated driver, howevere prosecution papers must be laid before court within 6 months of the offence.

Seems to be a rare event so either hardly anyone speeds through them or not many are switched on wink Allegedly you don't know which ones are connected anyway eg doesn't need to be camera's 1 and 2 it could be 1 and 4 etc.

An interesting article, it refers to the first average speed camera being placed on the M60 and M62 "three weeks ago" - it's not current info, as they've been in place significantly longer than 3 weeks (probably 3 months now?) wink .

From what i gather they have recently being calibrating and testing them. Whatever that really means I'm not really bothered as i take it steady through there and have never had an issue with it.

Me 2 years ago (just) on the A13 59 average in a 50 (not sure for how long (it's NSL to 50 to 40, the 50 section being 2 miles or so long so i didn't slow down fast enough at all) 3 points £60 fine no chance whatsoever of a speed awareness course
