Can anyone help me?

I have a 2009'C63 AMG (Pre face lift) and the auto wiper function is driving me crazy!

When you turn it on, it starts off on a slow constant speed and the goes to maximum speed - it's like it's possessed! Even with no water on the screen, it continues at maximum and scraps the blades along the glass! It is so bad, I don't use it. I just press the one wipe button every now and then in light drizzle!

I have tried the reset procedure, but this doesn't seem to change anything.

Interestingly, if you slow to a stop, the auto feature recognises this and stops the wipers, but as soon as you set off again, they go bat crap crazy!

Searching the internet has not turned anything up, so I am hoping that someone knows something and can help?

No solution but it sounds like the sensor is 'kaput'.....?

Have you tried cleaning the sensor/glass near the sensor?

Mine goes a bit crazy at times, mostly at the start of a journey with a cold windscreen. I think it's seeing a bit of misting as it doesn't do it once it's warmed up.

Sadly it's not this! The car is always clean and the glass has been checked for marks and damage.

I have heard that the sensor can go into a default setting and only the dealer can reprogram it? Could this help?

Thanks so far!

Original or aftermarket windscreen? And has the issue always been there or something has changed recently (assuming the car is not new to you)?

It's the original Mercedes screen and the issue has been there as long as I have had the car (18 months or so). But it's only really been needed in wet conditions this winter, hence why it's annoying me now.

One thing that struck me is whether your position on the indicator stalk is correct. The auto setting for the wipers is activated when the lights are set to auto and the wipers are set to the first intermittent setting on the indicator stalk....daft question but yours isn't set to the high speed (4th position) setting is it?!

Just a thought,

Reds, Brin

No, it's set to the first position and lights are on auto - so it should be working!

It really is puzzling!

Usually if the system fails in some way it goes into a standard intermittent mode - wipe every 5 secs.

I guess the only thing to do is take to a dealer or indie with MB's StarDiagnose and see what it shows.
