Hopefully a quick question.

My gearstick came loose recently and in the process of tightening up the locking screw, which holds the gearstick body (with the arm for the reverse light switch) to the stub shaft I noticed that if i tightened it up at its lowest position, it made 2nd, 4th and reverse pretty much impossible to engage, as the gearstick body was catching the rear lip of the metal surround for the stub shaft "hole". The solution was to lift the gearstick further up the shaft (5mm ish) to create clearance, then tighten it up.

My question is, should there be some form of spacer to stop the gearstick from dropping down to its lowest point on the stub shaft? I am just thinking that this will probably work loose again at some point..

Don't know the answer to the spacer but I know when I wanted Mole Valley to change mine for the Titanium one from TVRP they found the original was araldited in. As mine was a one-owner car (2004) from new with no mention of gearbox work in the history file I can only presume it was done at the factory. I therefore guess it may have been done to prevent any loosening off.

Common problem. I have drilled and taped out the grub screw holes larger and "peck" drilled the stub shaft to stop this. You will need to check you can get 5th without any pressure on the lever when engaged and also that the reverse light switch doesn't lock the lever in 5th. You may need to unbolt from the top of the box, 4 bolts and be ready to rescue them as you drop them.....

Think I posted before about this, Gatwick TVR had the box out 3 times with the previous owner, I fixed it in a morning over 5 years ago.... not happened since
