Are Elecrtric Cars Taking The Fun Out Of Driving?
Discussion
Depends on the car. The Drayson EV is not very boring. It's just that the majority of EVs have to appeal to the largest audience at the moment so that the drivetrain can get any headway against the established ICE market, which means that fun-to-drive is quite a low priority (see - Lotus' storming success and growth. Good cars, but not for everyone).
Why do you end every sentence with a question mark?

I don't see how the Car can be taking the fun out? I'd say it was the ever increasing demands on our poorly maintained road network, the thousands of poorly trained and low skilled drivers, the ever present but entirely erroneous "Speed kills" preaching, the ever lowering of speed limits because once, someone stubbed their toe within 3miles, and the increasing environmental cost of motoring as our population continually rises.
But, yeah, the Nissan Leaf has a LOT to answer for......... ;-)

As a Nissan Leaf owner I can honesty say that I enjoy driving it more than any other 'standard' car I've ever owned.
Of course it's no as much fun to drive as my Z4 or MR2 was, but I never expected it to be.
One thing that is fun though is remembering the pain of chucking £60 worth of diesel in a car week after week.

We went for a test drive in one y'day, must say i was very impressed. We have one on loan next w'd so see how i get on but looks likely we will get one for our family car.Of course it's no as much fun to drive as my Z4 or MR2 was, but I never expected it to be.

A dull car is going to be dull, no matter what fuel it uses.
A bloaty, heavy car is more likely to be dull than a light, nimble one.
Shoving a quarter of a ton of batteries into a car is more likely to make it bloaty.
Ergo, an electric car is more likely to be dull than an ICE one.
And before people say "Oh, but what about the Tesla S?", OK, it's reputedly very pleasant to drive briskly - but imagine how much better it'd be if it didn't weigh north of two ton. It's aluminimum, ffs... It's near-on half a ton more than an XJ - OK, about two-thirds of that is the battery pack, but what's the rest of the difference?

Personally, I think EVs are adding back some of the fun that has been stripped by the auto diesel market.
Drive a pure EV round town v a diesel and one is an absolute hoot whereas the other is a minicab. No one grows up dreaming of being a minicab driver.
Indeed, I'd quite happily have a hybrid like a Prius or an Insight for my day to day car but I wouldn't want a diesel.Drive a pure EV round town v a diesel and one is an absolute hoot whereas the other is a minicab. No one grows up dreaming of being a minicab driver.
