Foot on the brake for me unless I can see I'm going to be stopped for any length of time, when driving the Jag that is,(auto).

When people in front of me do the same I couldn't care less as I have a life.
This.

I'm assuming PHers with sensitive eyes must never venture into Central London where driving is s procession from traffic light to traffic light. No-one uses their handbrake.

My car has hill assist so when I take foot off the brake it holds for a few seconds. If I use handbrake it doesn't!

I have a fly off handbrake which is impractical to engage in stop start traffic

I do it purely to annoy the person behind.
Same.
And if I'm behind you it's main beam smile
Sometimes I flick it in and out of reverse too. Just for the fun of it.

Then I wait for PH to explode in a "Oooh, my ickle sensitive eyes" frothing.
It's even better with an auto-dimming rear-view and door mirrors wink

But going by the 3 hire cars (for the long motorway hauls) that have had it fitted, Stop Start does need the foot brake to work... selecting neutral in some cases results in a "Stop/Start Unavailable at this time" message on the dash board.
I think my A7's stop start is based on the brake pedal. Certainly if you use neutral + handbrake the engine starts as soon as you release the pedal.

I'm not certain as I've not had it that long, but I think it may keep the engine off if you use park. It seemed to do just that today, but it was a delayed switch off as the car was warming up, and needed to restart less than 0.5 seconds later as traffic started moving again.

Unsurprisingly, people perceive light differently and the majority of the population have problems dealing with contrast when it comes to dealing with bright lights at night. I think it's super that some of you don't have a problem with sitting behind people with their brake lights on but you're in the minority. The attitude of 'it doesnt affect me so thats ok' is also really, really great.

I really don't see what the problem is. If I'm know I'm going to be stopped a while I'll put it in neutral and put the hand brake on, but mostly I sit with my foot on the brake. People must have very delicate eyes if brake lights hurt them.
It's mostly at night when the car in front has LED lights that glare can become a problem. The old style incandescent lamps where ok.

And this nicely summarises the root of the problem. Do you find you get any dizziness as the world revolves around you?

So the crux of this problem is that far too many drivers are using our roads with uncorrected defective eyesight.

Assumptions so far.

Lights dazzle some drivers, including me.

Some know this and don't give a Shiite.

Some know this and are considerate drivers.

Some are DH,s don't give a toss for anyone else on the roads.

Some drivers are basically idiots.

Q. Who are you, are you important?
A. I don't know?
R. Keep foot on brake at lights until I know more.

Can't be arsed reading the whole thread so apologies if this has been mentioned but...

My instructor suggested the handbrake was a good idea because it doesnt disengage if someone drives into the back of you - your foot on the other hand is likely to.

Those idiotic drivers, are they the ones who drive knowing they've got uncorrected defective eyesight?
