I wrote a review in the 'Top service from Works' article and Lotto (thank you for you kind words) has prompted me to put some pix online so I thought a little history as well.
I first saw an Astin Martin in 1959, it was probably a DB4, I was ten. I remember being transfixed and vowing that one day I would own one. Fast forward to 2012, and the war of attrition with the wife was won! This was a dream that HAD to be fulfilled. I had seen a 2006 DB9 Volante at Works and it was hanging around ... obviously for me! It had 52k miles on the clock so was not what most people go for. It did not worry me as I thought the V12 would go on at least to 100k and I would not be putting serious miles on it. The interior was good but the outside was a bit scruffy, but the nice man at Works said that if I bought it they would paint the from and the doors. Three weeks later I was the very proud owner of a Mendip Blue DB9 in pristine condition, well nearly. And it only took 53 years to get it!!!! It was £43K.I have nothing but praise for Works. Simon Stanton is an excellent fellow, even organised a trip to Gaydon as is Simon Volkes in the service department. Ask nicely and he'll give you a tour of the works where you can talk to all the engineers, they are so informative and talk so enthusiastically about the product. I have had to paint the garage, rewire the lighting and add some power points as well as a dehumidifier, but I go in there every day if I have not driven the car just to reming myself that I own an Aston Martin!. It is a fabulous drive, fast or slow, indeed I was showing it off to two friends of mine the first of whom bought a DB9 Coupe 2007 and the second a DB9 Coupe 2004. They are both serviced at Works also. Hope you like the pictures. Greybird.

I did not elucidate on the dog story, but .... It was last summer and far too hot to take the dog with us to shops etc. so I left him in the garden with the garage door open in case he got too hot, but he's an inteligent soul and got bored. First he tried to get into the wife's Polo and being unsuccessful tried ... the Aston ... scratches down both doors and right down the bonnet. To say I was furious is an understatement and I gave him a firm talking to!!! One of my Aston owning friends told me of a man called Charles, a Detailer, who could fix everything. He was brilliant, spent four days polishing or whatever he does and Augustus (that's his name) came back looking better than new. I don't know if advertising is allowed here but I am happy to give his number if anyone should require it. And, yes, the dog is fine, but not allowed into the garage on his own any longer.

Congratulations on you're car and what a great story. I remember my first experience of an Aston Martin. My friend's dad had a DB5 and he took us to the petrol station in it. I was about 10 at the time and remember all the people coming over to see it and comment on how nice it was. I remember my shoes were dirty and I tried not to get the mud in to the deep pile carpet. smile I only had to want 20 years to get mine, but it still feels very special to own such a lovely thing. I've had Porsche's in the past, but they never felt like owning one of these.

Enjoy and make the most of it!

Fully agree with the way Works treat you. Both Simon's I have dealt with buying and subsequent work. Had the tour behind the scenes and when I had a couple of minor faults it was all good with little fuss, even down to "looking after" my car for 4 months at Works whilst I was abroad working!
