Anyone know yellow 1600 super light (R400 NOT)
Discussion
Hi people
Have seen the above car for sale recently and wandered if anyone know of any history on the car?
Currently run a 996 GT3 and wandered if it would feel grossly under powered as a comparison or if should continue looking for a 6 speed 1800..Use will be occasional track days and B road driving etc.
Would obviously like an R300 or bigger but the jump in money terms is a lot more. This will be my first Caterham.
Thanks for thoughts.

Yes I know this car very well as I owned it for the last 3 years before swapping it for an R500 at Millwood in September this year
Is it still for sale at Millwood's? It was on their website and in PH adverts for a few weeks but is no longer listed.
It is a good original Superlight and has very large history file including the build invoices from Caterham back in 2001. I enjoyed driving approx. 7500miles over the 3 years and religiously maintained the car (invoices in the history to prove)
As for performance, only you can really decide if it is enough by driving it. If Millwood's still have the car for sale then Jon Vickers is a great guy to deal with and i'm sure he will accommodate a request for a test drive, he certainly did when I test drove the R500 Duratec I bought as well as an R500K I was also considering.
I bought the Superlight to compliment the V8 Vantage I had and even though the Aston is no GT3 the Caterham is very different to virtually anything else you will drive so don't let what appears on paper to be a relatively low level horsepower put you off.
A friend of mine used to have an Atom, 997GT3, 2-11 and has also enjoyed in the middle of this bunch a 140bhp Caterham and 160bhp R300. The Caterham's have been his most enjoyable hooning cars.

A 1600 Superlight is a very sweet 7, nicely balanced and fun to drive but it won't give you anywhere near the shove in the back that a GT3 does, particularly at higher speeds. But it will hustle round a circuit very well and i the right hands (on a twisty circuit) could lap quicker than a GT3 . . . If you want something with ballistic acceleration then you'll need a bit more power.
Not the fastest but one of he sweetest Sevens ever. Skinny tyres, LSD etc means they are great fun on the road with relatively low limits. They are not GT3 fast but with an aeroscreen, I reckon about 12 to 100mph so fast enough.
You can always go to DVA who for a couple of grand will probably get R300 power out of it (so a cheaper overall package).
EVO did vote the K Superlight their favourite Seven a few years back and I can see why-lovely and very addictive machine!

As many others have said the Superlight is a great little 7, all the right bits and great fun to pedal across the country lanes, I really enjoyed owning it.
I've sent you a PM as well which hopefully helps
