Made the decision on a rolex
Discussion
Right ive made my decision between a submariner and a seamaster.
Its come out to be a Submariner, now the question is.
What sort of price am i looking at and what sort of discount should i be expecting to pay cash?
Havent made my mind up between the three of them either Dateless sub or eithe the black or green dated ones.
But if anyone could give me indications on prices i should be expecting to pay
I have a few AD's around one being pagnell in Stratford Upon Avon and i have one in nuneaton too but if anyone has a recommendation i dont mind travelling for a good deal.

You can get some fantastic prices in Gibraltar making a visit here worthwhile:
The Red House is an official Rolex dealer so it's worth giving them a call (not email), and asking them how much your desired watch would be. Get a price first and then see how much discount they would offer you if you pay cash. You'll be surprised as to how much you could save.

As a reference, I purchased my Tag Heuer JH81 limited edition for £2900 which was a saving of £595 on the UK price. (Boutique price in London was £3495).
If I lived in the UK, I would almost certainly fly to Gib for that. Flights and two nights stay in Gib would be about £250 so you're still quids up and you get a holiday in warmer climates thrown in.
Remember there is no VAT on watches in Gib, but dealers do have to pay duty and they need to make a profit so see what you can push for.

Unless you have a pre-existing relationship with the Rolex dealer, expect zero discount or maybe a cursory few quid. Turning up with cash doesn't make you a big cheese
If you want to a make a saving, talk to Dominic at hackettwatches (Dom H on here) and he'll get you a far better deal than you could possibly do yourself.

I got over 15% off my day date at Harrods. I asked for a discount they asked if I would buy today if the price was right and I agreed. A quick phone call to management did the trick. Don't think Harrods sell fakes. If you want to a make a saving, talk to Dominic at hackettwatches (Dom H on here) and he'll get you a far better deal than you could possibly do yourself.
Did the same in another store when I bought Mrs BC's Cartier.

How gold / blingy is your day-date & how long ago was that ? I've heard that it's easier to get discounts on the more golden offerings than on the SS models, and also that Rolex have got much tighter on dealers in the last 2-3 years.Did the same in another store when I bought Mrs BC's Cartier.
Don't think anyone would be surprised about getting money off a Cartier watch, they don't have the same reputation for trying to protect RRPs.

What have fakes got to do with anything?Did the same in another store when I bought Mrs BC's Cartier.
Cartier - no problem with discount to anyone.
Ah yes, discount on a a Day Date... the non-existant stainless steel version was it? OP is asking about a Submariner, not a gold non-sports piece. Think you'll get 15% off one of those at Harrods? G'wan, give it a try...

I have to agree with Yeti.....Cartier are a bit like TAG, will give a large discount to anybody with a credit card, but Harrods giving 15% of any type of Rolex (apart from gold) is surprising to say the least !
Remember it is not actually Harrods you are dealing with it is a jeweller working within the store. In my case it was Goldsmiths although the receipt is from Harrods.Yes it is a gold day date.

Yes it is a gold day date.
That's the point. It's not hard to get a discount of that level on a Day-Date. However it's almost unheard of on a stainless steel Submariner in the last 5 years or so.Yes it is a gold day date.

You may well be right. I have an Omega Seamaster and the Rolex so will probably never buy another watch.Gassing Station | Watches | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
