I thought it was because this Friday is the last payday before Christmas for the majority of people?
But it isn't for many people. Nearly every company I worked at move pay forward in dec.Either way, the profit thing mentioned on page one is what I've heard when I've met with people at amazon etc.
i am not afraid of a discount, however no-one really knows why 'black friday' exists it would seem. They just go and spend money because they companies said come and buy st. I'd rather have reasonable prices the rest of the year, because discounts always mean there was a lot more margin to play with previously than maybe we'd like to think there was. Black Friday to me just means 'rip of the rest of the year' and also I'm a bit sick of us inheriting Yank things just because they're on the Internet.
I disagree, they may have large margins but these businesses have shareholders to answer to and if customers are willing to be buying goods at their biggest margin for a large proportion of the year, the business has a duty to the shareholders to do this. Once profit levels are sufficient to guarantee dividends, then slash the prices to cream a bit extra volume off the top. I appreciate this is a very basic explanation and that I have no insight into any online retailers' business model.

Black Friday (as several mentioned) comes from it being the first day that many retail companies go from making a loss so far (being the red) and start making a profit, moving into the black.
It's become this, but as posted above it originally related to the busy traffic the day after Thanksgiving ... there was also Black Saturday.Who cares though, we all like a bargain

Make sure to check your prices before jumping into any 'deals', I've noticed items in the upcoming section having a lower RRP than when they go up in the sale.
There's a Canon 7D body upcoming at 3pm, the RRP is £699. When this was in the sale over the weekend they had the RRP as £999.99 and the sale price was £699!
One deal I was looking at I found cheaper on ebay. There's a Canon 7D body upcoming at 3pm, the RRP is £699. When this was in the sale over the weekend they had the RRP as £999.99 and the sale price was £699!
Make it time limited and people will aimlessly buy in their droves. Nicely done.

I don't dislike Black Friday but how much stuff on "sale" will have done up in price before the black Friday to then be put on sale for a lower price. I've seen stuff go on sale for example in a Large store that was £14.99 a few weeks ago. Go up to £19.99 then back on sale for £14.99. and people think they are getting a good dealGassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
