Absolutely fantastic car and the gearbox actually suits it for it's intended purpose of track use in my opinion.

In comparison to one of it's contemporary rivals, the Porsche GT3, it's looking increasingly good value too as the GT3 heads off into the stratosphere price wise.
Could not agree more. As everyone knows black is the faster colour & is the one BMW chose to show in their museum.

Posted a few times but check out the figures on this link.

yes loved my mantas, all rear wheel drive fun. The 1760 Mexico powered mark 2 escort was the most fun, as it had poor suspension, and crap tyres ;0)

Re the large amount of M3's, use to buy them, take them back to OEM, then sell them ready for the next project. Worked up to a V8 M3. then that was stolen, then went for a little Z4M Coupe, then after got a good sale price for it, moved into a high mileage CSL.

Thanks for info on the tyres. Keep resisting the temptation of buying pilot cup tyres, as I'm sure it would end up in a tree.

Took mine round Oulton Park, and it did feel right at home. The SMG does work well on my drive to work, as I'm not touching town, just country roads and motorway. ;0)

Thanks again for the advice, and feedback.

Just back from a 2 day trip to the other side of the country and back in my new Z4M and while of course it isn't CSL, the S54 that it shares with the CSL and M3 is utterly, utterly sublime, and that mad but incredible in line 6 shriek/rasp is still ringing in my ears from 2 days of dropping a cog and flooring it. I'd love to try a CSL as that air box exaggerates the noise even more...

Who mods such a special car? And who buys TEN examples of the same car? PH can be a confusing place sometimes.

Get some cups for the summer & track work. They add another dimension to the car.

Are you on the cslregister?

I've had three and would rate it better fun than the GT3 RS I had...

The gearbox suits the car in my opinion and allows for very spirited driving.

And the noise, something else..

If I didn't change cars as often as I change my underpants I would still have one....

It's a black one in the museum because all the Grey ones had found new, loving homes due to their superior looks & performance.

Great write up, one of the best on here. Stunning car, Ive not had the pleasure of driving one yet (in fact I haven't driven any E46 M3), but I have heard them on full attack and that noise is amazing.

Its interesting to read the OP bought so many M3's choosing specifically modified ones (guessing buying them cheap as non standard is a limited market/niche) revert back to standard and sell on for a decent profit.

Wonder how many cars this would work for?

Love the CSLs shame you don't see many of them on the roads.

I had one, it was superb, I had it 4 years and drove 290 miles in that time. Not much I know, but they were quality miles.
