So taking the downpipe -> Turbo bolt off at the weekend, sheared the nut off the end of the stud.
Tried the double hex bolt method but all I've done is mess the threads up that I had access to before banghead Might have got a bit carried away with the hammer.
Here is how it looks now :

Im looking at some external extractors Halfords and Machinemart have some that might work... Ill probably give them a try first.
However I think it would be a lot easier just welding on a nut and undoing it in the normal fashion...

Im no welder and not up for shelling out for one right now - Anyone local PH'er to me who could pop round and weld on a nut , I'll pay beer money, any consumables and your fuel costs !

put 2 nuts onto the thread and use the upper one to undo it, the other one will hold it in place.

Thats the first thing I tried, only had cheap soft alloy nuts though and they have done nothing but damage the thread on the stud!

Problem also is that the stud has a shank in the middle , so not enough thread to get x2 manifold nuts on, had to use el-cheapo shallow nuts, which failed :-(

If it's that tight that it snapped off Reckon it will do the same again with double nuts or nut welded on?

Is there room to get some heat on the flange then a decent pair of "Mole Grips" on the stud?

failing that I'd be looking at drilling and tapping out remains of old stud scratchchin

Im thinking a few heat cycles / plus gas / hammer time before attempting the Welded Nut.
The stud started coming out before shearing off, I take this as a good sign!

I can ultimately drop the turbo off the car to get access to it so its not like an engine out job. But really thats a few hours off then on so willing to pay / try the welded nut before throwing a day at it.

Mate of mine has suggested filing the sides and getting some grips on it, I assume that doesnt hinder the Welded Nut method so might try that.

ETA - I understand an impact wrench is better than a breaker bar when it comes to this kind of stuff, something to do with physics ! Might try that but I still need the nut on there!

Had the same thing happen when I did my turbo. Got hold of a set of stud extractors, as you turn them they grip the stud and out it comes. No thread required.
