confused Aargh! Looking through some previous threads in trying to determine what I need to do next, I am struggling to identify the correct part without having to do a thread juggle/grind out/infill/etc...

Problem: Clutch peddle flat on floor + Master cylinder res empty + pool of clutch fluid in drip tray below = failed slave cylinder.

Debate, is it worth trying to replace seals or just replace slave cylinder? If replacing slave (and not the helpful child version who does a good job of handing over the spanner that I forgot to take under the car with me), where from and what is the correct part for an early 2.9 S3?

Anyone know if this fits without having to change threads? (That's the metal thread rather than topic)

Yes on mine I had to replace brake nuts to Landrover, relieve the hole in the bracket it locates in and possibly the meat around the bolt holes

It was just a straight swap on mine.
Nice and easy for a change smile

One thread on this said be careful not to drop nut into bellhousing......
Luckily I didn't as I read the warning after I put it on.

Cheers

Tim

See this thread, with some detailed instructions if you have not already found it.

Not exactly a direct swap for me, but not too bad a job to do. My problem was getting the right ends for the pipe linking the master and slave. Would have been much easier if I had the pipe when I first got under the car to take the slave off.

Tim,

The sort of answer I was hoping for - where (and what part number if you have it?) did you obtain said slave?

Hi Mark

I got the one that you quoted in "Phillpot"'s link

LAND ROVER -DISCOVERY 1 300 TDI SLAVE CLUTCH CYLINDER FTC5072

Exactly that one from Ebay

I may just have been lucky that the threads were the same. I suppose it depends on whether it had been changed before or what TVR had in the store room that day wink

If it doesn't fit I think some folk bought a braided pipe with correct ends to go between master and slave as "Smokey Boyer" says.

Best of luck! Either way it isn't an expensive job.

Off to order some bits. Back to the S-Max rear trailing arms now that those bits arrived. Cheers guys.

Personally I wouldn't bother with a seal kit, bore of cylinder is than likely scored/corroded which has caused the initial failure.

I think the long and short of it is you either pays yer money and get the right thing or jig around with pipe fittings and a cheapo Land Rover part?

Until some clever soul works out which car the original was pinched from scratchchin

Thanks all, slave from 4x4 went in a dream after grinding away the excess casting - feels a tad lighter under the left foot but not a problem.
