I live in Hamble and work in Southampton near the football stadium.

Yesterday and today I have parked in Woolston and walked over the bridge, from a time/exercise/traffic view point it works very well.

Most roadside parking in the vicinity of the bridge is max 1 or 2 hours, I've left the car on the hill up from the Yacht Tavern, Sea Road.

Is there anywhere else? Free all day parking close to the bridge? In a proper car park? I'd happily pay £1.20 a pay as its the same cost as the bridge.

Anybody local?

I don't think you will find any all day parking for as low as that:

Have you tried using the First 6 service from Hamble to Woolston?

I live in Woolston and walk the bridge every day.

As far as I know you wont find any car parks free, or at that price for all day parking. You're limited to surrounding roads really with no parking restrictions....

Thanks Wedgie. Seems a shame that gravel area under the bridge is empty but max 2 hours.

Bus? Bus? Pfft.

Check out www.parkonmydrive.co.uk. My sister lives in Obelisk Road in woolston and rents out a space on her drive. No idea how much, but I don't think its a particularly lucrative money-maker for her!

I've found a slightly better spot to leave the Jaaagwar.

Walking over the bridge is rocking, no traffic queing at all, no bridge fees, 23 min walk. 46 mins of good exercise everyday.

I too work near the stadium. You could park in Shamrock quay. Officially you need a pass, but I've never seen one checked in the 3 years I've been here. There is a barriered area to the right as you enter, during the winter its almost always open..if its closed you can just park in the marina

I work in Ocean Quay, there is plenty of parking here, its the queue to get over the bridge I want to avoid. And getting some exercise is a bonus to me (being an 18 stone fatty)

I work for a business centre in Ocean Village. Our parking permits are £120 a month and that's without VAT!

I see from your profile that you come from Dorset, so parking in Woolston not feasible for you.

Its rocking for me, great exercise too.

After a few crossings in high wind and rain you may change your mind hehe

I've done my fair share of those, walked the bridge every day for the last five years. I've learned now that heavy rain+wind = bus..!

On a decent day though its a great walk. I do two miles each way to and from home and bus stop on other side for work.

Personally I would park on street in Alcantara crescent in Ocean village if it's not yet been made residents only. It wasn't when I lived there 6 months ago. It's a 2 or 3 minute walk to the bridge so quicker than parking in Woolston but you will still have to pay for the bridge. Can you not get a bridge card to get it at the discounted rate?

If you see a 6' 3" fat bloke in desperate need of a haircut bumbling along talking to him self it's me.

I had an SO14 postcode and had, in fact still have a card. On the website it mentions local businesses being eligible as well.

Just checked and you just need to pay council tax to Southampton city council to be eligible. I realise this is of no use to the OP

Any SO postcode gets a discount.
I have a card and I live in SO16. Gives me 10p off every time I use the bridge.
Not a huge sum but every little helps smile

The time I walk over in the mornings, the traffic is non existent! Usually just after 6.30. I work up at the Uni in Highfield and get the Unilink from the docks.

An hour later though, and as you say it turns to carnage!
