Cars you like even though no one else does...

Another vote for the 996 here.
I also like the BMW Z3 (in 2.8,3.0 or M form). I think it's better looking than the Z4.
Bloody hell- another human being who likes the Z3! Particularly nice in post facelift, 6 cyl engine guise. My no 1 pic for this thread. Yes, I own one, and its actually quite good.I also like the BMW Z3 (in 2.8,3.0 or M form). I think it's better looking than the Z4.
996 is my 2nd pick. Similar story to the Z3, not very well received at launch, not regarded as 'proper' by many, some scary bork throw in for good measure. Seems that the IMS isn't as scary as the interweb has led us to believe, although its far from the greatest Porche product due to cost-cutting measures at the time.
Now it's starting to look rather nice, compact and not fussy in its design. Even the infamous pre facelift headlights are starting to look inoffensive, to me eye at least. It's also a properly analogue car, which isn't going to depreciate on you. A modern 911 that can be bought for around £10K, which can be driven daily. Im not even sure it's a great pick for this thread anymore- it doesn't get trashed anywhere near as much as it used to on places like PH.
I'll have a post-facelift 3.6 manual in grey, dark leather, good aftermarket exhaust and maybe some cheeky 997 wheels for a tasteful update.
I also like the P38 RR, which is hated mainly for being fantastically unreliable. It is the borkiest thing ever, but is rather a nice old armchair when working. Looks right.
Feeling like this is my kinda thread, as my taste can generously be described as 'eclectic'. Putting aside the Z3 and 996:
-Chrysler Crossfire- old SLK underneath, Clarksons pooing dog comparison, looks handsome and good value now
-Figaro- like the simplicity/ durability of Micra underpinnings, does 'cute' quite well, more one for the Mrs than myself
-MG ZT- turns out it isn't sh*t judging by the love for them on here, looks good post facelift, those prices!
-Ferrari 360- far from hated/ unliked, but one of the best looking Ferraris ever to my eye, properly analogue, a bit forgotten now
-Boxster 986- as above, not necessarily hated but people shy away for fear of IMS bork which seems to have been overstated, doesn't look as challenging as it once did, sub £6K 2.7 and Ss available, I'll have a black one with manual box please
-mk1 Cayenne, people thought 'what were they thinking' at launch- many still do, saved Porsche financially and continues to allow them to make the 'proper' Porsches, fugliness has diminished with time, 3.2 means you could actually DD one
-Gen7 Celica, not as well regarded a FWD coupe as it should be, 2ZZ is a cracking engine, still looks good, super reliable, very cheap now, no one ever mentions the excellent driving position- try one
-mk1 Mercedes M class, challenging looks, questionable reliability, not a whole lot going for it, I'd still have a diesel one now that they're going for buttons
-Alfa Spider 07>- not necessarily hated, but definitely overlooked, gorgeous in the metal, some great paint/ leather combos, not expensive, will go wrong
-Chrysler 300C- not that well put together, of questionable taste (how many have a 'Bentley' grill?), has great presence, diesel could be a handsome, cheap DD
-Cadillac CTS- was never going to do anything in the UK, looks rather imposing, nice big petrol engine, Americans can't do interiors (I hate a clichè, but its true)
-big, ostentatious Yank 4x4s like Navigators and Escalades- pushing my luck here, don't know why Im drawn to them but there it is
-Hyundai coupe- a manual in 2.7 guise would be a rather good value old coupe I suspect, zero badge, does NOT look like a Ferrari
-Lexus SC- didnt know what it was meant to be, I like big Toyota V8 engines, looks an acquired taste but appeals to me
-Porsche 924- not the most thrilling car by any stretch, afew quid more buys a 944, were I buying my first car for a couple of grand again I'd have one, pepper pot alloys and the interior with a million 'Porsche' logos trimmed all over please
-MR2 based 355 replicas- every time I see a sub £5K one on EBay I have a look, then I put the bottle down and go to bed
Realise afew might not necessarily be car that 'no one else' likes. They are all cars that have a significant number of detractors, many rightly so. Im drawn to every one to some degree, many for reasons I can't really explain. I suppose that's kind of the point, logically you know you shouldn't like them, but you just do.

It's funny that the mark 3 Golf has been mentioned a few times because I love mine too and the GTI was always slated as a bad car due to it's suspension but change the suspension and you've suddenly fixed what VW got wrong.
I love my 16 valve GTI on Koni suspension, it's covered 191k, still returns 40mpg regularly and has heated leather so what's not to like.

Curve ball, this one.
And I used to own one of these:
You'd have to have been an idiot to buy a Cadillac BLS new for £25k and sell it at under £6k 3 years later. But when I bought one at £6k at 3 years old, it made more sense than a Vectra/Mondeo and was more interesting with it. Depreciation had settled down by then too. Pain in the arse to get parts when Saab and GM divorced though.
I quite fancy a bit of Mk 3 Lexus IS too.
