K11 generation Micras: virtually indestructible. Completely unfashionable but I reckon you'd struggle to find an all round cheaper car to buy and run (pennies to buy and insure). For that reason I like them.

Toyota Yaris: as above but more modern, better ergonomics.

K12 Micra 160SR. Decent alternative to a Fiesta Zetec-S or similar-handled well, went surprisingly well, looks cute (subjective) and returned cracking MPG for the performance it dished up.

Perfect as "My first warm hatch".

I had one of these in the '80's. I loved it but it rusted so fast around me that I felt there was just a drivers seat and steering wheel sitting in the drive.

Japanese 80s coupes like the mk3 Supra or 300zx.
Was going suggest I was in the minority for liking mk3 supras. My choice is the Astra GSi:

Aah a car from a time when a hot model was just a case of dropping in the biggest four banger you could find in the parts dept.

Incidentally I spent a happy summer delivering newspapers in an Si version of this generation astra - try finding one of those for sale now.

I like the Panamera and Cayenne.

Everybody says there ugly, I don't think so, but I find Astons rather bland yet everybody seems to droll over their styling.

They're terrible I know but I've always had a soft spot for PT Cruisers.
I agree with this. They dared to be different and so the PH crew obliterate it and in the next sentence chastise manufacturers for not making any interesting cars.

it's not so much the PT Cruisers themselves, but the complete magpie dweebs that buy them and stick all kinds of chrome tat to them, in some vague pastiche of every customised car they've ever heard of

My dad had one of those in the early 90's. As a kid I loved the look of it, and have looked for any surviving examples these days and they are very rare it seems. My dad's was a rather un-fetching shade of light beige, with a light beige interior. (Later offset by his following car of a Cavalier in dark brown)

The Cortina and MGB might have not been the best handling or performing cars in their day, but they were hardly "unloved" or even "unliked" - they were the biggest selling models around at the time!

I have to admit to a longing for an Avantime purely because it was an answer to a non existent question - one day I will scratch the itch - got to be V6 manual to make it properly stupid

Fiat Multipla. The late-90s one, in metallic green, with the dealer sticker on the back that says "If you think this is ugly, wait 'til you see the front".
