I am the ripe old age of 45 now so presume I need a medical to renew my licence, can that be done at the show or do I have to go to my own doctor ?

If your doing the medical at the autosport erm id do it early, as ermthe bar is open all day lol.

Also doing it early jan doesnt give you much time to use the same medical to renew your licence next year

If you get it done at the show in Jan you can apply for your 2016 licence in Nov/Dec 2015 when the medical is still within a year old

Received this from Motor Racing Medics last week. These are the guys who are at the shows Tim.
Efficient and quick, but best book your appointment time in advance so you're not waiting around. They do get booked up quick though so don't delay.

Your own GP might well be cheaper and probably won't charge you VAT.

I did mine abroad last year with a private doctor who only charged me 20€ cash!!! MSA were happy enough wink

Dear Driver

Hope you have had a good season so far. Looking ahead to next season I would like to let you know where we will be doing medicals.

Kartmania – Silverstone Race Circuit – 30 November – 1 December 2013 (Medicals and Resting ECGs only)
Autosport International Racing Car Show – NEC Birmingham – 9 – 12 January 2014
Race Retro - Stoneleigh Park – 21 - 23 February 2014

We have MSA application forms in case you have not yet received yours or forget to bring it!

As usual please could you give me a ring and book a slot if you wish to see us for your medical and ECG at any of these events – although we may have appointments on the day this is not guaranteed so it is preferable to book in advance.

We are also still doing medicals at our facility in Horley, near Gatwick, could you please give me a call a week or so before you require your medical.

PRICE LIST:
Medical £75 + VAT
HGV Medical £110 + VAT
Racing and HGV Medical £125 + VAT
12 Lead Resting ECG £50 + VAT
Medical and Resting ECG £115 + VAT
Stress ECG £320 + VAT
Medical and Stress ECG £370 + VAT
Blood Grouping £45 + VAT
TUE form £30 + VAT

Kind regards

I used Motor Racing Medics this year. It proved extremely difficult to arrange a medical with my own GP - I couldn't get a 'private' appointment within the 6 weeks I'd allowed before first test. In contrast to that my old GP was able give me a same day appointment, but concluded when I arrived that he couldn't do it without access to my notes. So that was a waste of time. I tried Nuffield and BUPA but couldn't get any sense out of them (despite having had a full medical with Nuffield the week before which covered pretty much all the aspects of the MSA test except colour blindness).

That left me in a bit of a fix - I tried Motor Racing Medics and they sorted it out very quickly and efficiently with no hassle whatsoever. Highly recommended.

I need my HGV medical too, so im going to try the local place that does that on a sat morning first.

although i see the lot below will combine hgv and racing.

over 45 is it a resting ecg for national licence and stress for international.

Tim the medical last for 12 months so as long as you remember to renew within the 12 months your ok. doing the medical in jan doesnt give you much leaway to remember lol,but as andy says you can renew for following year in dec probably nov when the renewals come out

sorry to sound thick but surely you can only renew a licence when it has run out and if I need a medical to renew this time, unless I leave a month between getting my medical and renewing the licence they will run out together won't they ?

No. A stress ECG is only required for an International licence, not a National A.

You can renew a licence within a couple of months of the old one expiring.
Eg. My licence isn't up for renewal until early March 2015. The LAST medical was also in March (this year 2014). The renewal forms are out now or are available online for the 2015 season. If I renew my licence earlier than the expiry date, say in January 2015, at the time of renewing my licence my medical is still valid, therefore I can do next years season without needing a further medical until Jan 2016.
I think that's right wobble

Almost right...

All 2014 licences expire on 31 December, irrespective of when you applied for it. So although you got your licence in March 2014, it still expires Dec 14 and you can apply for your 2015 licence now.

If by last year for the medical you mean March 14, provided you apply for your 2015 licence within 12 months of the medical, it remains valid. So you can get two years worth of licence out of one medical.

I have mine done where i get my ppl medical & they always accept that always seems easier than trying to get your GP to do it and cheaper list of doctors on the civil aviation authority site

I take it you did collect signatures on your card for the upgrade to 'National A' Tim?

Is it 6, over and above the initial 6 you get before you can lose the novice cross (12 in total), or is it just 6?
Section 14.2.2 (i) of the MSA Competition Licence Notes seems to refer to only 6 National B signatures being required to upgrade to National A. One of our own drivers told me it was 12, and even a lady behind the desk at the COC Oulton thought it was 10.
