Has anyone who has a 4.3 upgrade recorded the 0-60/0-100 times?

I know that the 3.6 is around 4.5, and the 4 litre S versions were/are supposed to be just under 4 seconds to 60. It would be interesting to know what the upgraded S6's would do...

(Not important, I know, just curious...)

I'm not convinced that in real world tests it would be possible to get any reliable data for the 0-60 as once you're sub-4seconds then traction is more of a factor than the relative power gains of the 4.3 vs 4.0.

This drag racing time wiki: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
is probably more relevant, even just to show the inevitable unreliability in setting times.
My time of 12.2 seems to split the 2 set by the 4.3's in the list.

Gut feel from having driven mine before as a 4.0S and after the 4.3 conversion is that is would make the 0-60 probably 0.1-0.2s quicker, with a max potential gain of 0.5seconds on a qtr mile. I'm hoping to get mine back to Odiham next year else i'll be heading for the pod.

Cheers for that smile

Can you noticeably feel the difference between your factory S and the 4.3?

Performance figures of a different kind; I got 27 mpg from my T430C on a recent motorway/A-roads 250 mile run, which I was pleased with, as I wasn't trying to drive it particularly economically.

Gearing will make a big difference, look at the press cars for an example.

Also I suspect 30-50, 70-100 etc. will be where the real gains are.

You're probably right - in-gear acceleration is important.

For the basic 0-60 times, I am assuming with a CR box, so 60 can be had in first gear.

They do seem pretty good on fuel - perhaps it's the light weight that helps..

For 60 in first you need the CR box AND you also need the 3.45 axle ratio?? Normal is 3.73 which with 7200 limit is only 58 with CR box in my spreadsheet ??

T

P.S. The 4.3 in my Tam and with 888's or Kumho V70s, wheel spin in first and 2nd limit any comparison - it's the in-gear low/mid-revs & above which the 4.3 scores. AIMHO

I remember driving it properly for the first few times after the running in period/service and to be honest it felt like it had actually lost a bit of the soul of the old 4.0, mainly as it felt like it had filled in the lower/mid range so much so that you lost of bit of that adrenaline rush in waiting for the engine to spin up above 5k. However after a few weeks, I got used to it and the reality is that it still has that sparkle at the top end, just that the whole thing feels so much quicker overall that you tend to drive it with a lot more respect. The old one I almost felt that I could put my foot flat to the floor on a dry day, and once in second gear just hang on for the ride whereas the 4.3 feels like I need to modulate it a bit more.

In my case it made financial sense to upgrade as I needed at least 2 pistons and new rods anyway so the price differential to a 4.0 rebuild wasn't too much. The fact that the 4.3's seem to command a slightly higher price when selling meant it was a no brainer, along with the 5yr warranty as opposed to 3yrs on a 4.0. (Mine was from str8six so not sure on the difference in Doms warranty times).

One thing that I wasn't prepared for was the change in engine note, it's much deeper, and combined with the decat meant I had to try a few exhaust configurations before I found something that helped reduce the drone. I've ended up with a full ACT system with proper back boxes, and it certainly does the trick.

If I were to do it again and the pistons/rods etc were all fine to re-use then i'd probably stick with the 4.0S and upgrade a few other bits like suspension and wheels/brakes, although as I have a diagnosed case of "upgradeitis" then these have subsequently been done anyway! If you are going for the 4.3 then get a lightened flywheel, and the manifolds Zircotec'd or similar at the same time.

Thank you for that!

I would imagine that, coming from a 3.6, it should be more of a difference. At the moment, I do put my foot right down to the floor in both first and second, something I will have to be a little more cautious of once I have the upgrade..

I already have new silicon and SS hoses and a rad in my garage (and 2 new OEM Tuscan S cats), I will buy Power's clutch, lightweight flywheel and slave cylinder kit during the next few weeks (along with a new speed transducer and upgraded fuel pump), all ready to be fitted when I have the 4.3.

I do have the Quaife LSD already fitted, and new Nitrons (which I need to be set up a little softer..) and the throttle bodies were rebushed and new gaskets by Dom.

After this, I may just have the 322mm front brake disks - and one day, I suppose I'll have to give in and have the CF airbox...

"upgradeitis" can be a bit of a nightmare... hehe
