Just discovered that this classic US show is being shown on Forces TV. Used to love watching this when I was younger on BBC1 and BBC2

Sky Channel 264
Virgin 244
Freesat 652

Show at 10:25am and 7:25pm


There is a full DVD box set of all 140+ episodes available, although I think the price will have to drop a little before I can justify buying it. £70 seems to be the cheapest price I can find

I had most of these on vhs taped off TV. About 12 of them. I think I was missing maybe the episodes. I used to love watching them with my dad every night.

The greatest show ever, Phil Silver's was the master of comedic acting & of course the most important thing of all, fantastic timing. I have every episode on VHS & I'm just waiting for the complete box set to become a little more keener on price.


Hillbilly Wizz has to be up there with Harry Speakup .


As said above I used to watch it with my pops too.

There were that many? Now you've got me wondering about splashing out.

I was raised on Top Cat (Bilko for kids for any younger PHers out there). It was great prep for the real thing. The jokes in The Phil Silvers come so quick and fast, that you have to pay proper attention to get them all.

(Off to Youtube for lunchtime distraction...)

That's hardly politically correct is it? Saying "don't drop bombs on my head" to a Japanese!

Brilliant show though. I well remember 'Elvin Pelvin', but does anyone recall the two episodes featuring Ed "The Stomach" Honergan, played by Fred Gwynne - who later became Herman Munster?

Vaguely.

I think I'll have to acquire the boxed set. It looks like it has only recently been released for Region 2.

I bought what I believed to be a box set a couple of years ago (>140 episodes + pilot).

It was a wee bit disappointing as it had all been recorded off the telly.

The quality varied between the episodes and some had the channel logo still embedded.

It was a bit less than that one on Amazon though (which is now £66.60 incidentally).
