As title - I want to mount a mechanical oil temp gauge but the capillary won't comfortably reach the sump. Short of finding someone to replace the capillary with a longer one (at great expense no doubt) what options do I have?

Look for one with a longer capillary?

I'm sure the current capillary could be extended fairly easily with a slightly wider sleeve brazed or soldered on the make a coupler.

Thanks for the reply but I already have the gauge and it matches the OE gauges so don't want to change it really.
I've read the link and it sounds like something I could do but I was hoping someone was going to suggest another option such as running an oil hose closer to where I need it, adding the bulb and returning it to its original destination. Is that even possible?

I don't think the oil would flow through it well enough to get a decent reading, unless you made a loop somehow, like tapped off some lines for an oil cooler, but just looped them round to somewhere near the back of the engine.

Fit a remote oil filter and fit the oil capillary to that.
