So far he's done nothing wrong.

How can Pembroke of all places afford it all?

Whilst "councillor gets £90k Porsch" is a great headline, it was actually hybrid and Panameras aren't that bad to lease as no buffer wants then, so it probably isn't all that bad. If he'd gone for half of the range rovers available, it would have cost tax payers double, but probably wouldn't have been picked up by the media.

.....and yet he didn't have the sense to actually do that. A Panamera is hardly necessary nor fitting for the job of a relatively minor public servant and is so obviously going to bring on a st storm, quite properly.

I repeat. He didn't have the sense to see that. Total fkwit.

1. Why the f**k are these people getting 200k payoffs?
2. What kind of local Govt person doesn't realise that their company car should be a bland, fairly cheap machine when "we are all in this together"..

Umm, while my knowledge of leasing could be written in its entirety on a postage stamp, I am only looking at the first entry on Bing, and it is 1 am and I cant sleep so I am not at my best, I can find a Panamera for £685pm pre-VAT and the cheapest Evoques start at £240pm pre VAT. It does become a lot closer as you move up the range mind, and if you wanted Panamera hybrid or Range Rover Sport then it is only slightly in the Rovers favour. As far as I can tell...

Our local Lieutenant Governor has just splashed out 12k on a new car. The garage I used to work for serviced the old car: it was a clunker.

smile Given the size of Guernsey vs the wealth generated by its successful industries I should have thought a Tesla would be a good replacement.

Bizarre that it should be a secret when paid for with public money.

... he's not a councillor wink .

He's the former chief executive and as such was an employee of the county council (no-one voted for him except those involved in the interview process for that post).

By comparison, the "top councillor" (who some of the public voted in as a councillor) will have the title of "the leader of the council" (some of "the council leader"'s colleagues will have later voted for him/her to hold that exalted position).

For info, the councillors seem to run the asylum with the council officers doing what the councillors ask/tell them to do wink .

Are you suggesting that unelected officials who have unlimited time and resources to throw at any public issue they care to meddle with might actually do what poorly paid volunteer evening and weekend elected, and therefore political, amateurs say?

Or even pay attention to what the utterly unpaid general public might think?

In my experience this is a somewhat rose-tinted view of how local government works.
