Homebase, bunch of morons
Discussion
Just my Friday rant.
The light in the oven died, been there about 10 years plus, so I bought a new one in Homebase for £4.79
It lasted 3 hours. anyway up town, nipped into B & Q and got another one for £2.00 saving of £2.79
Nipped into Homebase with the "Receipt" and duff bulb, conversations goes something like this.
I bought this two days ago, it only lasted two hours, and it blew, so I would like a refund.
(You could see the broken filament inside the bulb).
Just go and get another bulb sir.
It's Ok I got one in B & Q, and it was only £2.00 as well, so I just want a refund.
We can't refund it without the packaging.
It's in the bin at home.
Sorry sir but we can't make a refund without the packaging.
Is the manager in. (Bearing in mind the guy I am speaking to looks all of 17)
I am the manager.
(Quickly putting brain in gear), I said "I think you will find under the consumer protection act regulations you are only required to return the defective item, not the packaging"
He turns to the girl at the till and says "Give him a refund"

They've just remodeled the store near me into a design center. It's actually really nice now. They have a decent selection of tools and the interior design stuff is 10x better than it used to be. I'd still go to Wickes or B&Q for proper tools however.
What annoys me is the "robots" with their headsets stood around the store who constantly ask if you need help

Hmmm, how interesting. I worked part time for 5 years in a Homebase store and they were indeed a bunch of utter half wits but then what were you expecting from someone who is paid the national minimum wage for a job which is about as challenging as a childs shape sorting game? How would you feel working 8 hours a day getting summoned via. tannoy to mix paint or cut some wood. What strikes me is how depressed the staff and the entire working environment of the place (all stores are the same) are rather than their out right stupidity.
I went into the Guildford branch since leaving - actually Ive been in a few times - and each time Ive been served by the same bloke who seems to want to ask me how I am, then proceed to tell me how he hates his job, how it sucks to work weekends and how it must be nice to have weekends off. I explained to him Id spent every weekend, Thursday and Friday evenings bar holidays for 7 years working in either Homebase or Morrisons while my mates were off down the beach with a few beers or something and that he should educate himself rather than complaining about the place which he didn't like one bit. fking stunk as well. Unfortunately the last 3 or 4 years of my student retail career was during the transition into a recession which saw customers transition from fairly happy people to absolute miserable s; the management 'team' and approach changed a fair bit over the years as well which seemed to ruin the morale of the entire company. Walk into the Hull Hessle branch and youll see what I mean. Someone even hung themselves in one store. I absolutely 100 % hated going to work and the 9 months it took me from finishing uni to starting a real life job were the most depressing of my life. I think the thing that really made me hate the place was when one of the regional managers walked over to me and patted me on the back asking if I was ok like he was my mate or something...
So you need to understand why these people are as they are. They probably hate themselves and everything around them and you should view them as an entity rather than a person.
