Built to be driven, not polished.

You could have it professionally polished?

If you look up Caterham R500.co.uk (I think that's it?) you'll see a blog by Rob French(?) he details polishing exhausts and what he did to get a really good result.

Looks pretty good to me.

I spent a couple of hours hand polishing mine at the end of the summer. It made quite a difference but it could probably do with a machine polisher to get the stubborn marks off.

once they are highly polished, they are a lot easier to keep shiny... with some metal polish. If you clean it with wire wool or scotchbright you are back to square one.

In fact, very fine scotchbright makes a nice job anyway on a dull exhaust, better than wire wool in my experience.

quite a few grades of the stuff... Just don't leave a piece by the sink and let your wife clean some expensive glassware with it rolleyes

If it's in a bit of a state start with 1000 grade emery paper and water, go finer and finer to up to 3000 grade, I think that's the finest you can get, then attack with Autosol.......................and your done. You should now have a mirror finish exhaust.

Personally I wouldn't bother! Just keep it the way it is or give it a rub now and again with Autosol. If you do track days your exhaust will always get a tan!

It has not been touched (cleaned) for over a year.

Hope to show some good shots of the finish soon.
