The paint on my car's roof has faded badly and seems to have turned to dust.

I'm aware that at some point the car will need remedial bodywork and a full respray but it won't be for a while. Is anyone able to suggest a temporary (and relatively cheap) solution? I'm not looking for perfection but would like it to look presentable. Would just having the roof painted be worthwhile?

It looks like the last time it had a very poor job done on the roof (and tail gate?).
If I were you I wouldn't bother about getting just the roof done cheaply again - in fact you probably won't be able to get it done cheaply as all the other cr@p will have to taken off first to give any new stuff the chance of actually staying on.
I'd save the pennies and put it towards getting the whole lot done properly.
(Or go for the rat look!)

Yes, the top of the tailgate has gone too (the bits at the base of the rear window are sticky stuff rather than paint). Not sure about whether or not it's ever been done before - if so the work precedes my ownership. The car has been standing for seven years and is being put back on the road at the moment.

Bugger. I really wanted to avoid the rat look.

There's no point in spending any money, however little ..... the top won't rust through.
Save yer money to get it done properly.

Obviously can't comment on whether this particular car has been resprayed or not, but in my (unfortunately quite considerable) experience of Peugeots of this kind of age, they often oxidise like this. It starts off looking like crocodile skin & then slowly dissolves to white powder over time. Obviously factory were experimenting with finishes at this time (late 80's early 90's) and this one didn't quite work out how they had planned!!

This happened to my 106, I rubbed it down with wet and dry and stuck some black vinyl over the top.
It cost me £5 for a roof sized off cut from a local sign shop and took me a few hours.

It was a bit rough on close inspection but from 3ft looked perfectly fine smile

That's the sort of thing I was thinking of as a temporary measure. I'd rather have it the same colour (or as near as possible) to the car though.
