Halfords stereo, LPG, cheapo dvd screen. Methinks this didn't live on a gravel drive...Saw this and stuck it up elsewhere
Yeah really
Seats four and two laying down
I suppose a clue would be in order
Perfect for a transplant into a Monza - current owner says it's quite fast - it would be!!!!
Nice engine after all how hard have you seen a funeral car driven!!!
Oh and it's commonly known in Monza/Carlton/Senator circles as a Gold top
Last of the line of the CIH engines - UK versions got a big valve head and a bit higher compression to compensate for the addition of restrictive catalytic converters.
Let's just say the compensations were rather useful
Monza's don't need cats and when they are removed from the engine they perform almost as well as a std 24V (ie close to 200 bhp)
OK so not really a car but a good source of a transplant before it got bangered

Under 50,000 miles though.
Even then it seems a bit rich.Pre 'Bubble' low owner, low mileage cars seemed to hold a premium of a couple of hundred quid over slightly more used examples, now they are a couple of grand more expensive, and even then you wouldn't be too surprised to see it re-advised with pictures on a white background for £10k within a week.
Personally its beginning to put me off retro cars. People holding on to anything remotely old, tidy and low mileage or putting a high price on like we can expect to see it roll through Bonhams in a couple of decades time. A white, strange spec Audi A6 with 50k on the clock is never going to be a museum piece or even particularly desirable. £3k just doesn't make sense to me, but it'll probably sell which is the problem for me.
Although some fantastic machines have been posted in here, I remember circa 10 years ago when I was waiting for my driving license a thread with this budget would have bought 6 series, 8 Series', E34 M5s, SEC Mercedes, C32/C36, E55 AMGs, tidy late XJS', 944s, 928s and so on. Now usable examples of most of those for the money are but a dream, but th what has taken up the slack for the money? To my eyes it mostly seems to be tidy/usable examples of otherwise not very interesting or desirable older cars, and that just doesn't appeal.
I think my next purchase is going to be something from the early 00s because anything older seems to actively attract a 'retro' tax.

I recently purchased a 1995 C36 AMG for a little over thread budget, very nice 3 owner with lots of history, there were a reasonable number available, most below budget, some worthy, some not.DoctorX said:

This just popped into my inbox from Classic and Performance Car.....

To be honest I've just had a look on eBay and there are a lot more AMGs in this budget than there were when I last looked, but you can still catch a glimpse of the bubble from time to time:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1998-S-Reg-MERCEDES-BENZ...
11 grand. 80k Miles
Anyway...
Whilst I'm there moaning, this 55 looks like a good bet.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-MERCEDES-E55-AMG-AU...
Well looked after, tasteful upgrades and no nasty wheels like most of the E55s it shares it price point with.
And CLs have gotten silly

£2990!
