I think I have convinced myself that I need a new delay pedal. I bought a cheap moo'er reecho earlier in the year which is ok but it is a little hit and miss. We are covering U2 New Years day and the mooer is struggling to get the delay I want. So I'm after something with a little more control and possible a huge sign that says 'Edge noise, dotted 8ths this way wink'.

I wondered it TC was the way to go but they seem to have a lot of options.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Cheers

I'll sell you my old Zoom 1010 for not a lot of beer tokens. The overdrive on it is just nasty, but the delay copes OK with things like Where the streets have no name.

Alternatively there's a Boss DD7 kicking around on the Gear Exchange thread on Facebook.

Hardwire DL8. Those things are practically studio quality for peanuts.

So if you want to do edge type stuff you need a digital delay with a tap tempo preferably (set the delay to dotted eighth notes) I think a boss DD7 will do that... It also has a small footprint and is pretty robust. The DD5 gets really good reviews but it doesn't have the modulation effects you'll need for edge stuff. If you want to get the mutts nuts of digital delays get a strymon timeline.
The DD20 might also be worth a gander
ersonally I like analog pedals I used to use an old 70s electroharmonix but changed out to an MXR carbon copy, nice and compact and surprisingly good if not a touch dark tone wise. (kept the EHX though??)

After the usual white Boss jobbies, I've seen more Line6 DL4 delay pedals on guitarists board than many others over recent years....

Or one of the Electro Harmonix memory man delays (the Edge used one or two of these in the early U2 days) the more recent ones are smaller, have tap-tempo/ 1/8-1/16th note settings and include modulation...

Just checked - the deluxe memory boy is the one with the tap tempos. Anyway, have a look and see...

The DL4 has a bit of a rep for being flaky for reliability, and also needs a special AC power supply so won't run well with the rest of your board. Our lead guitarist bought an MM4 but says he wouldn't want to rely on it live.

mm4? Is that a memory man?

I was also looking at the TC flashback triple but that is a load more cash

Line6's PodXT had a "Streets have no name" preset for the tone and delay, you could isolate the delay and use that on it's own too. I don't know if any of their current line up have it. I never used it, it would be handy if you wanted to sound like "The Edge".
